World War Two / Look up please - for Christopher James Taylor
« on: Friday 18 March 22 16:46 GMT (UK)  »

C J Taylor: Service no. 2068137: Rank Sapper: Record Year 1946: Unit Royal Engineers

I believe that it may be my Uncle Jim. That is Christopher James Taylor born 3rd Oct 1920 in Hendon, Sunderland. His home address would be recorded as Dalton Avenue, Seaham, County Durham. I should be very grateful if someone could check that it is him and give me the details.

Many thanks in advance for any help. Best wishes, Yvonne

Lancashire / Burial Salford - Joseph Stansfield d 7th January 1946
« on: Sunday 09 December 18 07:59 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for the burial / grave of my grandfather Joseph Stansfield who died 7th January 1946 at his home 33, Wynford St, Salford.
I expected that he'd have been buried in Weaste Cemetery so I've already contacted Agecroft Cemetery who have explored the records of all 4 Salford cemeteries but found no information on the name or the date.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Yvonne

Lancashire / Bancroft Place, Manchester or Salford?
« on: Tuesday 27 November 18 07:49 GMT (UK)  »
According to Slater's directories my grandfather Joseph Stansfield b1875 Salford ran his Horse Collar manufacturing business from 23a Albert st in 1903 but had moved down the street to 33 Water st by 1909.
His son also named Joseph took over the business. He was interviewed for a newspaper article published in the Manchester Guardian on March 5th 1956 by which time he had moved the business to Southern st, Manchester.
The article says "Times and trade have indeed changed since 1896, when Mr Stansfield's father set up the business at Bancroft Place, in a house overlooking a pair of (disused) gallows."
In 1896 my grandfather was living with his parents in Hampton st, Salford.
Can anyone please tell me where Bancroft Place was.Thank you in advance for your help. Yvonne

Lancashire / 4 Bloom St, Salford
« on: Friday 12 October 18 08:19 BST (UK)  »
I've found Bloom st, Salford on the map. But where was number 4?  The Deamhouse Apartments is number 2, the Oriental Express take away is 2A and the Salford Corporation Model Lodging House is number 6; so what happened to number 4? At the other end of the street the pub, Kings Arms, on the other side is number 11.
According to his death certificate my Uncle Albert was living at 4, Bloom St when he died in 1974.
Some of these buildings have been built since 1974 so perhaps number 4 has been demolished or have the buildings been re-numbered?
I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks, Yvonne

She died age 24, on 30th December 1935 in Salford Union Infirmary of complications due to her first pregnancy. Edith and Harold had married in April the same year and lived at 9 Middlebourne St., Pendleton.
Thank you in advance, Yvonne

Armed Forces / Kings (Liverpool Regiment) 2nd Batt
« on: Monday 12 March 12 08:56 GMT (UK)  »
My Great Uncle Thomas Henry Hall, born 1888, No. 10499 was a Private in the Kings (Liverpool Regiment). In the 1911 Census he is with the 2nd Battalion stationed in Ambala, Punjab India. All the records I can find say that the 2nd Battalion deployed to India in 1908 and remained there throughout WW1. Thomas only received the British Medal which I believe means that he we in a theatre of war but not France. I understand that his time in India would qualify him for this medal.

Thomas died of post operative shock on the 4th November 1915 in hospital in Birmingham.

I'm interested in how he came to be in Birmingham when his regiment remained in India. As his Service Record is not available, presumably destroyed like so many others, I'm trying to put together his movements from his regiments history but so far I've not been very successful.

If anyone can pass on any information about the regiment between 1911 and 1916 that may help me then I should be very grateful.

Thank you,
Yvonne

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / COMPLETE Coroner's Reports Manchester 1838
« on: Monday 13 December 10 09:19 GMT (UK)  »
Dear All,
I have a copy of the death certificate of Ellen Stansfield who tragically died 23rd December 1838. She was 5 weeks old. The cause of death was "suffocation accidentally caused" and it was registered at Deansgate Manchester by the coroner William J Rutter.

I wonder if the coroner's reports for1838 have survived and if so how / where do I apply.

Thanks for any help.
 Yvonne
