Aberdeenshire / Newhills churchyard
« on: Thursday 12 April 18 13:49 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping to be in the Aberdeen area next week and would like to explore Newhills churchyard for Barron, Ferries and Adam graves. The Ferries would be around 1950 and Adam 1948 and 1966.  The Barron one earlier.

Is there a number, such as the lairs department, I could ring to see if the people I am interested in are recorded in the Newhills records.  I have explored the information on ANEFHS and see there is a record of the name Adam and is part of the family that I am interested in but the particular name I am interested in is not quoted.

Thanks

Canada / Obituary Alexander William Barron died 22nd June 1991
« on: Thursday 05 April 18 12:50 BST (UK)  »
Can anybody with access to old newspapers have a look for an obituary for Alexander William Barron who died 22nd June 1991 in Richmond.BC.

He lived at 3160 Steveston Hwy, Richmond according to his death certificate.  His wife was Betty Ann Lewis.  I am particularly interested to see if it mentions a sister Jean.  I have Betty’s Obituary.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

I am researching an Alexander George Adam and his family. Alexander, wife and children emigrated to New Zealand from Scotland in 1957.

I have found on Find a Grave a burial in Purewa Cemetery, Meadowbank, Aukland.  There is an Alexander with wife Margaret being buried in 1966, both the same date but there is no date of death for Margaret.  Alexander died on 5th November 1966. I thought perhaps Margaret had died earlier and had been cremated but there is no mention of ashes.

So far I am not sure if this is my Alexander.  I wondered if anyone could access a  death notice in a newspaper or if there is any way of confirming birth date of Alexander as being 9th February 1908.

Any help with confirming that I have the correct people would be much appreciated.

Angus (Forfarshire) / Western Cemetery, Perth Road, Dundee
« on: Monday 23 October 17 12:12 BST (UK)  »
I believe an Alexander Ingram who died on 29th March 1870 is buried in the Western Cemetery.

I am paying a visit to the area at the end of this week and would like to locate the grave stone.

Could anyone familiar with the layout of this cemetery advise me if there is a plan of the grave stones .  I am looking for lair 137 in V111.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Moray (Elginshire) / Names on Elgin War Memorial
« on: Saturday 11 February 17 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
On a visit to Elgin we took a photo of my husband's Gr. Uncles names on the war memorial in Elgin.

Unfortunately we seem to have missed one gr uncle as he was a sergeant.

Can anybody tell me if there is a web site I can access a photo of the names on the memorial.  The name I am interested in is Catto.  I have a photo of two brothers names but not the sergeant.
It might be a  wee while before I can get back up to Elgin so if anybody can help with accessing a photo it would be much appreciated.

Canada / Directory or voters roll look up please
« on: Wednesday 04 January 17 09:58 GMT (UK)  »
This may seem a strange request but I have been given a Christmas card list that belonged to someone who lived in Canada and who died several years ago.  The names are mainly relations who I know about apart from the name Mr. P.R. Lamb.

It would appear he was married before 1933 and had died by 1942 or just separated.

The address in 1933 is Mr. And Mrs. P.R. Lamb, 33 Laws Street, Toronto but in 1942 just Mrs Lamb.
By 1947 it is Mrs. P.R. Lamb, Ste 10 Edwin Apartments, River Ave, Winnipeg.

If I could find them on a directory that might give me what the initials stand for so that I can do further research as to who they were, related or otherwise.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Canada / Alexander Simpson born c1822. Who are his parents
« on: Monday 28 November 16 22:31 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find something that would give me the parents names of Alexander Simpson who was married to Anna Mellis in 1845. On a newspaper entry for his marriage in Scotland it states Alexander Simpson, Jnr.  They lived in Inverness and emigrated to Canada c1855 with their children. On the 1851 census in Inverness his year of birth is 1822.  I can't think of anything other than death records that might give his parents names.  Any suggestions would be greatfully received.

I have found most of the childrens marriages and deaths and some graves.  Also censuses.

The only one I am having no luck with is Alexander.  I have found a death on family search.org in 1875 but the age is ten years out.  The area of Flamboro, Wentworth is correct as that is where they originally settled.  He was alive in 1871 but not in 1881.  In 1881 the family are in Newmarket.  His wife Anna is buried in Newmarket along with some of her family. She died in 1912.

I believe Alexander is an uncle to Robert Simpson who had the department store in Toronto.
Thank you for your time.

Moray (Elginshire) / 2 West Back Street, Bishopmill
« on: Wednesday 16 November 16 18:08 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know when 2 West Back Street was demolished, assuming it originally stood on the corner.  I would love to find a photo.  If anybody can help with pointing me in the right direction.  I know of Libindx and was going to ask if they had one but if there is anywhere else I can try.

Thanks.

Gloucestershire / 1911 Census
« on: Sunday 30 October 16 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
My apologies for breaking the rules in asking for a look up of the 1911 census for John Crichton.  I was unaware of this restriction.

Thankfully I did not let anybody else break the rules by providing the 1911 census.

Apologies.
