Hi, I have two photos from different time periods that I am trying to link. The first is, I think, Mary Helena Lawson (nee Christiansen) with her family of 3 girls, a boy and possibly a second young boy on her lap. The girls were born 1882, 1884, 1887, the boy 1891 and the next born was a boy born 1896. According to the 1911 census there was a child who died but I have no info at all on that child. The ones listed all survived past 1911. The second attachment is an image of the back of this photo. The 3rd attachment is, hopefully, the same family(ladies only) later in life and this photo has no backing to it. If anybody could kindly date these for me it would greatly help.
Many thanks in advance

Other Countries / Phillips death in Indonesia?
« on: Monday 17 October 11 17:35 BST (UK)  »
Hallo,
Looking for help with the following;
Arthur Albert Phillips b 24/11/1859 in Paddington, Middlesex, is shown on a few family trees that I have seen as having died in November 1882, Sulawesi Tengah, Indonesia but with no source. I have tried to find out where this info came from originally but to no avail. Oral family history has him dying at sea but no details. I have looked at the Maritime records around that period but no luck (some years missing). If anybody could help with any info or a way forward with my search I would be very grateful. Many thanks.

The Common Room / GRO Index
« on: Friday 21 March 08 18:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to trace a relation of mine who, according to oral family history, drowned at sea. I have traced a possibility on the "deaths overseas" and " Marine deaths" but how do you get the GRO reference number from this ( I wish to order a Death Cert for, hopefully, more info). I have a page number, a number at the top of the sheet that his name appears on, date of death, date of notification and ship name and number. Is, like an ordinary death cert, the reference number a combination of some of these or something that I would not be able to work out. Any advice here would be most welcome.

Hi,
could somebody help me find info on Mary Ann Phillips's death/ burial.
I have tried the BMD's with no luck. Her details are;-
Maiden name Nation born c1826 in Bridgewater, Somerset, to a John Nation and mother unknown ( by me anyway ).
Married George Phillips b 1824 in Stanton, Suffolk, on 18/01/1896 in St Johns Church, Paddington.
Last official record that I have of her existence is the 1861 Census return placing her at 22 London Street, Paddington with her son Arthur Phillips, b 1860 at Paddington, as a Lodging House Keeper.
George Phillips goes on to remarry in 1867 October Qtr in Brighton and is listed on this marriage cert as a widower.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
The one DC I did find was the incorrect one and this was for a death on 09/03/1867 in Islington.
Many thanks in advance

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Is she or isn't she ??
« on: Sunday 25 February 07 19:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
we have three copies of photos that we thought was our  greatgreat grandmother. Now however there is an element of doubt because of the apparent age of the child/lady and photography being available for this purpose. She was born in 1829 and with this in mind could anybody take a look and give us a reasonable date for the photos.
Thanks in advance for any informed opinions

World War Two / WW2 Ships of the Royal Navy
« on: Sunday 11 February 07 14:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
my late father served in the Royal Navy before, during and after WW2. Among his belongings I have found a photo album containing photos of Naval Warships and a large number of them have their fate noted below the photo. If anybody has a particular ship they would like a photo of or wish to know the fate of a particular ship I MAY be able to help.
The photos would obviously be scanned copies and I doubt that every ship is covered.

Arthur Albert Phillips b 1860 in Paddington to George Phillips and Mary Ann Nation. Last official entry for him is 1871 Census living in Brighton , Sx, with George and stepmother Sarah Ann and half brother Walter Frederick. Oral family history has him dying in a shipping accident out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Can anybody suggest/lookup for me the details, if any, of this accident. I am afraid that I have no other details, no date, no service (Royal Navy or Merchant ) and no ship name. Some task and I haven't a clue where to begin or even if this is possible with so little information. Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.
