Census and Resource Discussion / Lancashire 1901
« on: Tuesday 11 July 06 20:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a census name index for a family for 1901 from the s&n site, however when searching for them on Ancestry in order to view the original document I can't find them, the details are as follows:

Sykes Ben 57 Burnley East Ward  3861 96a
Sykes Jemima  47    "          "            "        "
Sykes Jemima   20   "          "            "        "
Sykes Ben   18         "          "            "        "
Sykes John 15         "           "            "        "

I have tried searching in various ways (with and without the piece number) without success.  Any suggestions welcome.

« on: Monday 10 April 06 22:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I hope someone can help, I have a 1841 transcription which gives the place of birth as 'Damfoot Scotland' or 'Dumfrost Scotland.

Can anyone suggest where this might be?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi

I would appreciate it if someone could check out the following:

Surname
Hunter - Alexander age 36 Cutler  Attercliffe Yorks
ref: HO107/2330/-F50

also his family: Margaret age 27, John age 7, Catherine age 2

They were lodgers at Newgate Pontefract, I wondered if the original will give a bit more info than I already have?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi

I have a copy of 1851 census for the family of William Evans, the township is Milford, Walton and Baswich.

Could someone please confirm which register office would cover that area.  I have sent for a certificate to Walsall for a Josiah Evans (who was the child of William) but it's not the right one.

Should I be checking out somewhere different to Walsall?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi

If anyone has an interest in the above names I have a photograph album which has the following inscription:

Presented to Miss Emily Todd
with many happy returns of the day
April 13 /69

The photographs were taken by photographers in Sheffield, Southport, Manchester and Derbyshire

One photo has the inscription:

Mr J? Fairhurst in his 75th year July 11/74

(I have posted this message on the board for items of interest but thought I might get a better response from this board)

regards

Hi

I was wondering if it is likely for a working class couple to have divorced around 1880?

I would guess that it would have been expensive compared to their income.

If they didn't divorce I am probably looking for a widow or a bigamist!

I'm sure someone out there can advise me.

Thanks

Hunter ???
