Armagh / Boyd/Darragh
« on: Monday 11 April 11 16:06 BST (UK)  »
My great grandmother Annie Higgins ms Darragh died in Busby, Renfrewshire 01/01/1912.
On her death record it stated that her deceased  parents were Patrick Darragh (Darroch in Scotland) and Ellen Boyd

Annie Darragh was married aged  22 in 1861 to Gilbert Higgins , a soldier,at Ahoghill C Antrim 1st Presbyterian church and they were both living in Ahoghill at that time.

I'm trying to find out when/where Ellen Boyd & Patrick Darragh were married. Also--where/when Ellen Boyd was born and any siblings she had

Any help/advice would be very welcome please

Thank you --Eileen

Lancashire / KIRKDALE HOMES, LIVERPOOL
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 13:55 BST (UK)  »
I received my grandfather's  death certificate this morning. The  address where he died was given as 241 Westminster Road, Liverpool 4. He was descibed as being " of no fixed abode"--aged 77 descibed as a labourer. The informant  was  "occupier"

A cousin thought that he was living in the Kirkdale Homes at one point--we weren't sure if this was for "old people" or for sick people.
However going by the term "no fixed abode" it sounds as though it could be a lodging house where people went to at night but had to leave the next day?

Can anybody give me any information please?

Thank you

Lancashire Lookup Requests / BAPTISM LOOK UP PLEASE-LANCASHIRE RECORDS OFFICE
« on: Tuesday 18 November 08 21:00 GMT (UK)  »
MY 3 x great grandfather CHARLES MOSS, was born in ORMSKIRK c 1806

I have his marriage record in Liverpool in 1832, but of course, no name of his father at that time. A witness was named as James Moss--who could have been the father of Charles.

I have information from his marriage until his death --also in Liverpool, but have been unable to find a baptism record
I am assuming that the record will be under St Peter's & St Paul.s church Ormskirk

If anybody is going to Lancashire records office and has the time, I'd be very grateful if you could do a birth look up for me please

Thank you--Eileen

Antrim / DARRAGH/HIGGNS AHOGILL c1850--70
« on: Friday 26 October 07 13:10 BST (UK)  »
MY great grand parents GILBERT HIGGNS & ANNIE (ANNA) DARRAGH were married 12/10/1861 at Ahogill First Presbyterian Church.
The record tells me that GILBERT was a soldier at that time and he was aged 23. His father was named  Hugh Higgns and he was a weaver.
ANNIE--was aged 22 and her father was  Patrick Darragh--a servant.

I would be gratfeul if anybody could tell me how to  find out which regiment Gilbert served in--also where i can trace the births  of both bride and groom--or anything pre 1861 please.about  their  parents.

I have the dobs of their children but not too sure about correct date of my grand mother's birth., She was Jane Higgins and there are 2 Janes--one--dob 10/04/1872 presumably she died but I have been unable to trace a record of this, Then a dob of  21/01/1877 for the 2nd Jane.--this is my grandmother On 2 census forms it gives her birth year  as c 1878 which would tie in with 1877 but  her brthday was 1st April not 21st January..
Any help/advice/pointers in the right direction would be welcomed
Thank you--Eileen.

Ross & Cromarty / BARBARA ROSS born c 1760 AT KILMUIR EASTER (?)
« on: Friday 29 June 07 12:11 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to track down a BARBARA ROSS. She married  HECTOR MUNRO and they had a son SAMUEL MUNRO born28/11/1778 at kilmuir Easter Ross & Cromarty.Info from Scotland's people. I can find no record of her birth or place of birth.I am guessing at her DoB from Samuel's age.

I have been unable to trace a marriage certificate for Hector & Barbara. --or of his birth either .

I am also unable to "translate" Hector's occupation on the birth record of his son but it looked like  mason in Tullich. --does anyone know if the latter is a place name? His son & a grandson were masons.
Any suggestions will be very welcome--thank you

Ross & Cromarty / Samuel MUNRO--Kilmuir Easter--1788
« on: Friday 22 June 07 11:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to sort out who is the mother of Samuel Munro ch 28/11/1788 is.

According to Scotland's People, Samuel's parents are HECTOR MUNRO & BARBARA ROSS

According to IGI (LDS site) his mother is BARBARA MacFARQUHAR. On this site, Samuel has several siblings--family group..

ON Scotland's People, these siblings are there also--same dates etc--one who is older than Samuel has Barbara Mac Farquhar as mother,-then Samuel--Barbara Ross, then the rest have Barbara MacFarquhar.
I have been unable to trace a marriage record for Hector Munro (bc 1761) to either of these ladies

Ross seems likely as my grand father and his father (Samuel's son)were both named Robert Ross Munro

Hector Munro seems likely as a father as he was a mason as was Samuel & one of Samuel.s sons also Hector was a mason. I know these 2 things aren't  "proof" only leads.

I am not sure where else I can check this out as I understand that Scotland's people don't do research
Can anybody suggest anything I can do please.
Thank you--Eileen

Down / Sarah Jane Mitchel
« on: Wednesday 07 March 07 21:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information about my great grandmother Sarah Jane Mitchel. she was married in Banbridge c Down in 1857 to Thomas Stenson. I have all the Stenson info and know that by 1861 they were living in Liverpool, but cannot trace Sarah's ancestors. She was b c 1841 and was living in Banbridge and was I think born there. Her father is down as Hugh Mitchel--a tailor. If I could find her birth certificate or registration I might be able to find out who her mother was and more about her father.
I would be grateful if somebody could suggest where I could look please.
Thank you--Eileen
