Lancashire Lookup Requests / MOORE LIVERPOOL
« on: Thursday 22 March 07 20:36 GMT (UK)  »
HELLO THERE!  CAN ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE?   MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER THOMAS MOORE MARRIED MY GREAT GREAT GRANDMOTHER, SARAH BOWDEN, IN MANCHESTER IN 1885.  THEY THEN MOVED TO CHESHIRE WHERE THEY HAD 2 CHILDREN, HANNAH IN 1886 AND THOMAS IN 1892.  ON BOTH THE CHILDREN'S BIRTH CERTIFICATES, THOMAS STATES THAT HE IS "OF LIVERPOOL".  HE ALSO SAYS THAT HIS FATHER IS NAMED MATTHEW (ON HIS MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE) AND I BELIEVE MATTHEW TO BE IRISH.  THOMAS WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN C. 1858.  I AM WONDERING, ARE THERE ANY ON LINE RESOURCES/LIVERPOOL BAPTISMS THAT MAY CONFIRM THIS?  WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP.

Ireland / Moore/Lang
« on: Friday 16 March 07 21:28 GMT (UK)  »
I 'think that I may have found my Gt. Gt. Grandparents, living in Manchester in 1841 but, as far as I can tell, they were from Dublin originally.  I 'presume' that they were married in Ireland because I can't find a marriage in Manchester and their children appear from 1839 onward in Manchester.  Are there ANY resourses available that may be able to tell me whether they did, in fact, come from Dublin?  They were called Matthew Moore and Ann Lang (y) and both born 'around' 1810 (ish)!!

Cheshire / Macclesfield Volunteer Fire Brigade
« on: Monday 12 March 07 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there!  Does anyone have any information on the Macclesfield Volunteer Fire Brigade between 1870 - 1883?  My Gt. Gt. Grandfather, Edwin Pyatt, was the Fire Chief.  According to his obituary, he was carried to his resting place on his horse-drawn fire tender, The Badger, so named because it was donated to the brigade by Charles (Brock)lehurst, Silk Manufacturer of Macclesfield.  A local Historian believes that The Badger is still in existance 'somewhere'.  Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Completed Census Requests / 1861 Manchester Census
« on: Monday 12 March 07 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hello there!  Yesterday, a very kind member found my family missing from the 1851 Manchester Census.  Their entry was part of an unfilmed section that had been water damaged.  I am now wondering whether the same applied to the 1841 and 1861 census as I cannot find them there either.  It could be that they had moved on, however, I can't find them listed anywhere and wonder if it's 'just me'!!  They were living at 3. Back Holgate Street, Manchester in 1851 and the family consisted of Matthew Moore, aged 35, a Weaver born Ireland (possibly Dublin), his Wife, Ann of similar age born Ireland, Daughter Mary aged 14 born Manchester and younger Sons,  Alexander and James.  Also living with them at that time....Peter Donohoe and Cathe Donohoe aged 77 and 80, also of Ireland.  Is there an address search facility that I am unaware of as in the 1881 Census on Ancestry?
Best wishes. ???

Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Manchester census 1851
« on: Sunday 11 March 07 16:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there, I wonder can anyone help me?  My Gt. Gt. Grandfather appears in an 1851 Manchester trade directory at No. 3 Back Holgate Street although I can not find him on the 1851 census.  I have been told that some parts of the census for that year and area were water damaged and am wondering whether this is the case here.  I have been spoiled with the easy address finder on the 1881 census and wonder whether anyone has any handy tips for finding an address (if not a person) on the 1851!?  I am also told that Back Holgate Street may have been part of the then Infamous Angel Meadow.......does anyone know?
