Essex / Daisy Parsons, West Ham Mayor. Photo sought
« on: Saturday 17 May 14 19:26 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to get hold of a close up photograph of Daisy Parsons, West Ham mayor, from the Stratford Express of 3/6/37, driving the first West Ham trolleybus down Greengate Street E13. There were at least two pictures taken but the one I'd like to see is the closeup of Mayor Daisy in the driving seat, accompanied by a police sergeant walking alongside and a small crowd...small crowd it being 6.30am. Balaam Street Park is on the left hand side and YMCA building on the right. Daisy was issued a special licence just for that journey
I have asked Stratford Local studies more than once for help, but received no answers.

Australia / Great Aunt's second son.
« on: Friday 01 June 12 22:08 BST (UK)  »
My mother always insisted that Dad's aunt, Ellen Peters, had two sons. I can only track down number one son, William Horace Brown. Ellen/Nell/Nellie married Horace William Brown in 1910 in Whitechapel. Following Horace's death, she immigrated with William to Australia and married Robert William Martin Rowe in Sydney (1919).
Thanks to some previous help I know that Nell and Robert are buried in Rookwood Cemetery. But I would really like to have any information on the elusive second son.
Many thanks in advance. C

The Common Room / Same family? Applecross to West Ham
« on: Sunday 29 April 12 16:37 BST (UK)  »
I have been puzzling over my MacKenzie family for a very long time. This is the answer I've come up with at last. Have a look would you, say if you think I'm right:

1841 Scotland census: Applecross, Ross and Cromarty

John MacKenzie b. 1781     Farmer
Margaret            b. 1787
Simon                 b. 1810
Mary                   b.  1813
Bell                     b.  1819
Betty                   b. 1821
GEORGE              b.1823
Roderick              b.1824
Peggy                  b 1826
Thomas               b 1827

1851 Scotland census       Edinburgh

George               b.1823          Ross and Cromarty
Catherine           b. 1829
George               b 1851          Edinburgh
Robert Fisher                           visitor

1861 Census      Ince in Makersfield

GEORGE MACKENZIE     b. 1823 Ross and Cromarty
CAtherine           b.1828
Robina               b. 1855
Christina            b. 1857
Catherine           b. 1859
Edward J            b. 1860
Alaisdair             b. 1865
Grace                 b. 1868
Alexander Fisher  b.1871

GEORGE MACKENZIE b. 1852 Edinburgh
Selina Cresswell
KAte Cresswell MacKenzie b.1881
Grace Elizabeth        b.1883
George Edward        b. 1882-3
Alexander                 b. 1888
Charles Henry          b. 1891
David                       b. 1895
Selina Eleanor         b. 1898

Hoping these are three generations of the same family. Not able to produce solid proof. There is however a strong railway connection evident in these entries, which makes me believe they're all the same Mackenzies.

The Common Room / An off-kilter tree. What to do?
« on: Sunday 15 May 11 21:11 BST (UK)  »
Looking at Ancestry, I have seen several of my relatives on another persons tree. Common enough, but they have been connected to the wrong people. I just don't know what to do.
Do I contact the tree owner and politely point out what I know to be error or do I leave well alone? I am reasonably sure of the facts, (one of the names is my granny) and I have copies of most of the certificates necessary to prove my case. But I don't want to be rude or pushy.
Should I just ignore this tree?

I have a relative originally assigned I believe to Woolwich. Later he was at North Woolwich and West Ham. Could anyone tell me if this was (or still is) ALL K Division?
I know West Ham was K, but would Woolwich/Charlton be the same division?
