Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Finding a census
« on: Wednesday 28 April 21 00:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

So I have been keeping a track of my family tree using the familysearch.org website. However I am finding it hard to find a relative's census on there that I can easily find on Ancestry!

The relative is Henry Fouldes and it is the 1891 census. His wife is Elizabeth Fouldes. They are in Sheffield, (Brightside Bierlow) but I cannot fathom why I cannot find them on Familysearch! Be grateful if anyone spots them and can send the link!

Thank you!
MJ

Hi all. I attach an image of a postcard which, when I try and translate the left hand side, just makes no sense!! It could be words are misspelled but what does it read like to you?

Thank you in advance!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Slightly obscured surname help

Hi all,

So I have this postcard to my great grandmother in Sheffield before she married. Think the date is Oct 2 1909.  That is not important. I just was curious if anyone could hazard a guess at the surname of her friend! She signs "With Love from your sincere friend Blanche..." and it is the surname I cannot make out.

I think I keep hoping I will find someone's family who was connected to my great grandmother who might be able to identify some strangers in all my old photos!! 😂

Thanks all

World War One / Balkans postcard
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 22:56 BST (UK)  »
I have found, amongst many old postcards, a Christmas postcard to my grandad (John Gibson Fouldes) from his Uncle George. He calls my grandad "Little Jack" so as not to confuse him with my grandad's father also John Gibson Fouldes!

Anyhow I am assuming it is George Fouldes (brother of my grandad's dad). I am just curious is there a way to find out when he might have been in the Balkans during the war? I have to be honest I thought he would be posted in northern Europe like so many were.  I know there is a War Records website but all those details are behind a paywall and I don't think I am organised enough yet to use a paid service wisely enough! I know I would join and then forget to log on again until membership had expired!

Thanks in advance. It is so wonderful to have all these postcards and quite a few seem from the front line! They keep it very sparse but I guess they had to be careful what they said.

Anyhow cheers all

Hi all, have loads of old greeting postcards for relations. Just looking at this one (see image) do you think the bit after "Mother" is "I L" as in Mother-in-law?  Or am I misreading "Mother"?

Thank you

Hi all, I have a few photo of the below chap with no explanation who he is!

Then I found this version today and on the back I think it says "July 1930". Can anyone work out the rest?  I was hoping it would tell me who he is! Seems I may never know (I include his image on photo 2!)

Thanks

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Sara Ann Hatcliffe
« on: Monday 16 November 20 13:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hey all,

going off a little from my main branch I started look at my paternal grandma's line in Sheffield.

My grandmother had the parents Charles Andrew Hardy and Sarah Ann Hatcliffe. I found an entry in Free BMD that shows a marriage in Ecclesall B district (which includes Sheffield) on March 1910. I think that was them as my Nan (Irene Kathleen Hardy) is born in 1914, her brother Clifford Andrew in 1912 and sister Joyce Enid in 1919.

However she also had another sister called Hilda Hatcliffe born in 1902. So that must mean that Sarah Ann was married before to a Hatcliffe. Can anyone see who that might be, and if they had more children than Hilda? Someone on Family Search has it that Hilda moved to America! But not sure myself.

Also can anyone see if Sara Ann got married a third time?  That surprised me but my Nan has another sister called Grace (she was lovely!) and I am sure she was also her half sister, but she was younger than Nan. It would be after her second husband Charles died in 1923.

Thank you all,

MJ

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / The importance of being Earnest (& George)
« on: Saturday 07 November 20 15:30 GMT (UK)  »
I wondered if anyone could help me with a couple of relatives.

I have got to a piece on my tree where (I shall post an image). And I wondered can anyone see what the marriage should be for George (son of Thomas and Martha) and "May" Fouldes? I found one that said 1909 but on the 1911 census they have a child, George, who was born in 1907. I find it hard to believe they would have had a child out of wedlock.

Don't suppose anyone can see when the family members died as well? I can't find George junior or Earnest!

Thanks,
M
