Kent / Maidstone Parish Records
« on: Wednesday 20 June 07 20:37 BST (UK)  »
I'm struggling to find any more information on my direct maiden name line (the one i particularly want to trace!) and am looking for some advice on where to go now.

The furthest back i have found (thanks to the IGI :-\) is Thomas Swinnock, married to Martha Mason in 1775 so he was probably born about 1750-55. His birth, unfortunately, isn't on there!

Where do I go from here? Anything past the census i get a bit confused :-[ I obviously need to look at the Maidstone Parish Registers, is there any way i can do that sat many miles away in Nottinghsmahire?!

Thanks!

Kent / Old Photos of Maidstone?
« on: Thursday 14 June 07 16:11 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there are any surviving photos of Maidstone (Week St/Sandling Road), early to mid 1800's? A few of my direct descendents had businesses there, including one who was a hairdresser and I'd love to know if any exist.

Information gratefully recieved!

Many Thanks,
Clare

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1861/51/41 Census help please!
« on: Friday 08 June 07 12:19 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for more information about Alfred Vincent TURNER. Courtesy of another Rootschat member (;D) I have the following 1871 census entry for him:

1871  RG10/249  f.68  p.52  St Pancras, London
41 Peckwater Street

Alfred Vincent TURNER  Head  38  Housepainter  Berks Windsor
Ann                               Wife  27                      No Knowledge
Edward James              Son    7  Scholar
Alfred Vincent               Son    5  Scholar
Emily                             Daur   3
William J                        Son   1             All children born Middlesex St Pancras

From the 1881 census, Ann's birthplace is Poplar. She is, by now, a widow - Alfred died in 1871 (although she has young children born after this time with the surname Turner  :o).

I've had a look myself on the 1861 but can't find Alfred - my knowledge of London districts is very poor (I thought all my lot were from Kent!) so I'm hoping someone with a better eye than me can find him.

Many Thanks!

Derbyshire Completed Look ups / 1901 Lookup Please - REEVES
« on: Thursday 07 June 07 12:16 BST (UK)  »
I have recently received my GGrandparents marriage certificate. Unluckily, my GGrandfather John Edward Wilson REEVES was born in 1904 so I'm hoping someone with a good eye might be able to spot his parents on the census 3 yrs before. His father was John REEVES, and like many in the area he was a miner!

John Edward's birth was registered in Worksop - a quick search of ancestry shows quite a few Reeves births in that district at the  time so maybe quite a few families? In 1924 the family are living in Clowne so that may be an indication of location in 1901.

I've found a marriage for a John REEVES in Woksop, 1903 (wife Harriet or Alice) so its possible its him and he's unmarried in 1901.

I think i may need to order my GGrandfathers birth certificate but i thought a check of the 1901 first might give some results.

Thank you in advance!

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / 1871 Lookup Please - GURR
« on: Monday 04 June 07 13:23 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a John GURR on the 1871 census, born Abt 1867.

He appears on the 1891 with his wife Emma, and his birthplace is noted as Ramsgate. However, i can't find him on the 1881 census. I'm hoping he'll be on the 1871 (4 yrs?) so I can identify his parents/siblings.

Many Thanks in advance!

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / 1901 Census Lookup - TWYMAN/GURR
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 12:45 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for more information on a set of my GGrandparents.

My Grandfather is Frank Alfred TWYMAN b 24 Apr 1921 Thanet, I found his mothers maiden name to be GURR from the BMD index.

I then found a marriage between an Arthur TWYMAN and a May L GURR, Q4 1911 in Thanet. I know it isn't the best way to go about things like this but i am assuming (for now!) that these are his parents.

I'm pretty sure the whole family are from the Thanet area of Kent - so i just wondered if the 1891/1901 census brings up many possibilities? I think they were both born around 1886/1887.

They had 3 children that i know of: Arthur H (1913), Frank Alfred (1921), and Albert J (1925). These might provide some clue as far as names go!

Any help greaty appreciated  ;D

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / 1851 Census Lookup - SWINNOCK
« on: Sunday 15 April 07 20:54 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for parents of Edward Daniel SWINNOCK b. 1846 in Maidstone.

He appears on the 1881 census with his wife, Fanny Terry (/Terrey) BROWN (b. 1845 in Maidstone) and their chlidren (looking for her parents on the 1851 census too if possible, i'm hoping there weren't too many Fanny Terry Brown's in Maidstone!).

They married in 1868, again in maidstone.

Any help would be greatfully received!

Many Thanks, Clare
