I do hope that my old RC pals can help me here!   My wife's last surviving brother has died in Perth, Western Australia and we are today looking at a very old cutting from the Manchester Evening News
(undated don't y'know!) which has a photograph which includes her brother (complete with Busby etc.!)  We know,  of course that the reason for the visit to Manchester was part of the tercentenary
celebrations of this famous regiment.  I understand that this would have been in 1956.
Yesterday we travelled down to Manchester and into the Central Library and spent  couple of hours
trawling through the micro film records of the newspaper for the period April 1956 up to December 1956.  This time period was according to my wife's best recollection,  for in that time she attended
the celebration ball at the Manchester Town Hall in Albert Square as one of the guests.
Unfortunately to no avail!
Any ex Grenadiers out there,  can you please help.  What year was it - what month was it.
If I can locate the newspaper I should be able to get a "proper" copy of this now so important
photograph.
I know that her brother served in the Grenadiers from 1954 to 1957 (as a short term regular),  prior to emigrating to Perth in 1960.

Technical Help / Microsoft Account - problems
« on: Saturday 17 September 16 18:01 BST (UK)  »
Dear Roots Chatters,
You would think that my being eighty years old would have endowed me with some basic logic. Well I did,  that is until I tried to log into my bookmark for my "outlook.com" email page.  Now normally this would immediately bring up both current and past emails etc.  No probs!.  Perfectly OK until yesterday!  I log in and am confronted with a request to fill in a form for my Microsoft Account,  my email,  my password and my security number.  I have been trying to fill this in correctly,  but it will not accept my email address,  my password or the outlook "security code"
The difficulty as far as I am concerned is that I cannot access the emails I have and that is worrying.
Can my pals on RC help me?  E.g.  can I contact a human being at Microsoft to sort this matter out
for until it is then my "filed" emails are not available to me!   Help please now required!!!!

Roscommon / SOMERS family Roscommon and Galway
« on: Friday 26 September 14 15:16 BST (UK)  »
My sister in law is trying to trace her maternal family and has reached the proverbial "brick wall"
The family is named SOMERS and the two people are EDWARD, b. 1856 (circa) in Co. Roscommon
and his wife BRiDGET, b. 1853 in Co. Galway.
She has the census forms for 1901 and 1911 and they place the family in Hollygrove,  Killeroran, Co. Galway.  They are shown as National school teachers.  The birth dates are ascertained from these forms.
However information regarding their birth,  parentage,  marriage and death seems hard to come by.
Family Search is no help in that regard.
I just hope one of my good pals on RC can point us in the right direction!

Roscommon / Somers family - Co. Roscommon and Co. Galway
« on: Friday 26 September 14 15:05 BST (UK)  »
My sister in law is seeking help in finding her maternal family.  The family name is SOMERS and
she is seeking information on EDWARD (b.(circa) 1856 in Co. Roscommon and his wife BRIDGET
(nee Doud (variant) b. (circa) 1853 in Co. Galway.
She has copies of the 1901 and 1911 census,  which place them in Hollygrove,  Killeroran,  Co. Galway and they are National school teachers.  The problem is that information on their births, marriage and deaths are not forthcoming from the Civil Registry or any other record on Family Search.
I am asking my good pals on RC for some help in nailing down this info. to help my S-i-L in her search.

Technical Help / AOL email
« on: Saturday 30 August 14 17:42 BST (UK)  »
For the past two days I have not been able to send or save emails on my AOL mail account.
Trying to contact AOL is a bit like plaiting fog.  I have clicked on the properties of this and find that the URL was created on the 30th. August,  so it seems like some kind on virus.  Can any of my old RC pals help me sort this out?

FH Documents and Artefacts / Annulment of marriage in 1850/60
« on: Tuesday 10 December 13 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
I do hope that this is the correct site to put this query on.   Reviewing our Family History,  acquired
over the  past ten years,  I constantly alight upon a problem with part of my wife's paternal family.
Obviously I do not want to mention any names in order to protect anyone's sensitivity but to ask a general question.  My wife's great grandmother was married in 1855,  quoting her Maiden name and being listed as a "Spinster".  She had two children by that union.   In 1862 she was married again,  in the same Church,  quoting her Maiden name and listed as a "Spinster".  The only scenario I can think of that would allow for this would be "Annulment",  for some reason or other.  Question then is - Where does one go to find out if this was so?  May I ask from some help from my RC pals?
