Antrim / Address confusion
« on: Friday 07 July 23 15:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have just recieved the birth certificate for my uncle who was born on the 31st of January 1931 and the address is down as 15 Osman Street in Belfast.

I have checked the 1932 street directory via Lennon Wylies website and it states a Wm Tierney was living here at that time and on the 1924 street directory he was also living there also which stands to reason that he would have been there in 1931.

My great grandfathers name was John Joseph Wilson and by this point he was married with 2 sons.

Is it possible he was living there with the Tierney family or is there another possibility?

Antrim / Grandads birth address query
« on: Tuesday 27 June 23 16:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I have received my grandads birth certificate from 1925 (he is deceased now) and it gives his address and also states where he was actually born.

His parents were living at 22 Sevastopol street and he was born at 58 Balkan street.

I assumed this was a hospital at first but I checked the address on Lennon Wylie's site and a gentleman named James Quinn (a labourer) was living there.
I can aonly assume that perhaps James Quinn's wife was a midwife or something.

Does anybody have any idea what this might be?

Kind regards

United States of America / Buffalo Times newspaper help
« on: Saturday 17 June 23 20:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

My great great aunt Josephine Theresa Whelan was born in Ireland and came over to the US to live late 19th century.

I have seen that there is a newspaper article in the Buffalo Times in 1903 but although I have access to Ancestry I cannot see the newspaper article.

Is it possible that anyone can access the article and see what it is about?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dublin / Dublin electoral roll help
« on: Thursday 09 June 22 18:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for information on where in Dublin my grandfather lived before he moved over to England.
All involved have now passed.

His name was William Wilson and he would have been around 7/8 when he left Belfast to move to Dublin in or around 1930ish.
His mother was called Agnes McKenna but more than likely going under the name of Agnes Harvey as the man she lived there with was called Thomas Brookes Harvey.
They lived in Dublin at least until 1942 as they had a daughter in 1942.
By 1948 they were in England.

Any help locating them would be greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me what the parents names are for Paul Whelan and Bridget Goulding (AKA Golden). It's actually just the fathers I need. I was under the impression it's John but now not so sure.

Antrim / William James Wilson - bartender
« on: Saturday 18 July 20 18:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Years ago I ordered a marriage cert for William Wilson and Sarah Jane Whelan from somewhere (Emeraldancestors I think) and when the email came back to me they kindly said that in the parish register it actually gave both parents for the groom and the bride.
The grooms parents were William Wilson and Ann Rice and that the father was desceased and was a Publican by trade.
I could never find a marriage or any children (including William) for William and Ann. I know that this is not unusal and just assumed I would never get any further information on my direct line as is the curse for a lot of Irish folk.
Recently however I discovered that I also ordered another marriage cert from the same people for another Belfast direct line and the parents tey gave me (Once again in the parish register) was incorrect. The father was correct but they had mixed up the mother with the female witness (This marriage was located on Ancestry) so I was able to see this for myself.
The reason I mention all this is because recently I have found a birth for a William Wilson in the correct year (death cert gave me his age) with parents William James Wilson who was a Bartender  and Mary Jane Purvis. This marriage unfortunately is not on Ancestry. The information of the birth is on Ancestry and the bartender occupation is from another tree of a relative that I believe she ordered.
The father William james Wilson (prviding it is the correct man) was desceased by the time William (his son) was married in 1885. There are a few deaths for William Wilson that may well match the age of the father on https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ but I am wondering if there is a way I can order a copy of the death cert/photocopy but put down that his occupation must be bartender/publican so I don't have to buy numerous certs?
In England if you order a cert you can put down things that must match and if they don't they will email you and you only have to pay something like £4 instead of £11 for their trouble.

Sorry for rambling on.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help making out names
« on: Tuesday 07 July 20 18:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Many years ago when I ordered a marriage record for my 3xGrt Grandparents William Murphy and Margaret Fagan, I was told the paents for each were Patrick Murphy and Elizabeth McClure/McClune and Patrick Fagan and Ellen McGovern.
This information was straight from the paish register where both parents were written down.

I have just found the record on Ancestry and the brides mother seems to be different,

Can anyone help make out the name as best we can please?

Many thanks in advance

Dan
