I would be grateful if someone who can access the actual or filmed record could tell me whether the 19 January 1815 entry records the father of Elizabeth Halberd (aka Albone) and the names of witnesses.

Thank you, Ouse who.

Armed Forces / Army Deserters 1828-1840 on FindMyPast - source of data?
« on: Thursday 08 June 23 13:57 BST (UK)  »
Following on from my earlier recent posts can anyone tell me the source of the information in the Deserters Lists?

Seems lists come from Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society and the Family History Federation, so was this information sourced from a single or several sources - and where might it/they be held? I contacted the former some time ago asking the same question but thusfar no response.

I am visiting National Archive shortly to view some Muster Rolls and wonder if it/they are held there though a NA search doesn't suggest anything as far as I can see.

Thank you, O.

Armed Forces / Deserter - why?
« on: Monday 09 January 23 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
One of the helpful responses to an earlier post* directed me to the Army Deserters Lists on FindMyPast of a 1833 desertion from the Rifle Brigade, and I would like to know if I might glean more about the circumstances from any other source.

Technical Help / Completed. Deleting census image from Ancestry Source column
« on: Friday 18 November 22 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
I added a couple of incorrect census records to an ancestor's page a while ago and I can't find a way now of removing them. I can unlink them by editing the Facts column but the images remain in the Source column.

Any suggestions please?

Am wondering if anyone has access to or seen their marriage registration which would show William's occupation, the couples' ages or whether they were previously married.

Is he the widower vermin catcher of Biddenham - and she the Wootton born widow of John Bowler, Mary Garratt, whose first wife Rhoda was an elder sister of William?

The 1911 census has a Wootton born widow Mary Johnson living with her daughter Eliza Fellows (née Bowler) in Walsall, Staffordshire which gives some weight to my conjecture.

Best wishes, O.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Cause of Death John Johnson 1851 - link
« on: Sunday 28 November 21 15:17 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please work out the cause of death of John Johnson 1851 in Hobart? I have looked at several websites which have old medical terms but haven't seen a contender.

Attached is a detail which has been lightened and flattened, and an unedited whole page for context.

The two portraits are back to back in a fairly large locket which has bevelled perimeters to the glass on each side.

I would value any thoughts on the dates of the photographs. Are the people of the same generation ie husband and wife, or perhaps father and daughter?

As you can see the photograph of the lady is coloured and perhaps might help to date it. I think she has the locket around her neck and may have been added to the photograph. I have included a photograph of the locket in case that helps in dating.

Monmouthshire / Blunts of Monmouthshire - missing link?
« on: Monday 07 December 20 17:15 GMT (UK)  »
The Mitchel Troy OPRs document the baptism in 1796 of James Blunt son of Peter and Mary. That is the only mention of Peter and Mary I have been able to find from online records - so are there more local records elsewhere?

There are several Blunts recorded in the surrounding area and I wonder if Peter was connected in some way to them. The use of the name James appears in other baptisms 1794 Rockfield and 1822 Cwmcarvan, and a James Blount is recorded 1747 Tregare. More evidence of a link?

Peter's and Mary's BMDs must have been recorded elsewhere but where?

Devon Lookup Requests / Blunt 1861 and 1871 censuses
« on: Sunday 29 November 20 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
I cannot find Elizabeth Blunt bc 1790 Gosport, Hampshire in the 1861 census,  and her son Edward bc 1825 Ireland and his wife Johanna bc 1838 Exeter in the 1871 census.

Earlier censuses and OPRs show they had lived in the Exeter St Mary Major area. All three had appeared in the courts in the past and I wonder if they might have been in prison. If so would they be recorded?

Ouse who.

Elizabeth (née Short) died 1863 Exeter, Johanna (née Hunns) was a widow by 1881. Edward may have already died.
