In the 1939 Register (Thorney RD)... Kennel A Rootham 1911 is with George Rootham 1857, Martha 1863, Polly 1889 and Percy 1902. These Roothams were from Holme Hunts, but an Arthur Kennell Rootham was born in 1911 at Bradford. Another Rootham girl, Martha 1884 married Amos Batty from Bradford and had children in Bradford by 1904. Any information about Arthur Kennell Rootham and his parents would be very welcome. Thanks and a Merry Christmas in advance! (I have only recently started using the 1939 Register and find it an excellent aid for more recent searches but don't have full access)  :)

Family History Beginners Board / Missing in 1861 -emigrated to US?
« on: Tuesday 24 October 17 08:59 BST (UK)  »
1851 at Ramsey (Holme) (Hunts/Cambs/Northants) has Robert Stokes 28 ,wife Mary Ann 28, Sarah Ann 8, Rhoda 7, Zacheaus 5, Martha 4, Betsey Wesley Stokes . No mention in 1861 or later. Did they emigrate? There is a Zacheus (sic) Stokes in Minnesota State Prison (emigrated 1870)  in 1900 and a ZS Stokes in Gordon Todd Minnesota (born England 1846) in 1885. Did the whole family emigrate after 1856 when Robert inherited much land from his father John Stokes (will 1856) Holme.

Family History Beginners Board / Multiple Christenings 25 December 1823 Holme
« on: Friday 13 October 17 13:03 BST (UK)  »
I have found 8 children christened on 25 Dec 1823 at Holme Hunts ( Cambs / Northants) Catharine  Henry Charlotte Robert George Joseph Christiana and Sarah. All children of John and Sarah Stokes. Is it possible to find their various DOB? I think Charlotte was born 1816 as she died in 1842 aged 26. Henry could be 1813. Robert might be 1823. Sarah and Joseph etc - I have no idea. Why so many multiple Christenings on Christmas Day?

Family History Beginners Board / Joiner Stokes of Ramsey and Glatton
« on: Tuesday 26 September 17 11:05 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace details of Joiner Stokes' parents. Joiner was born circa 1774 in Glatton? and died 1862. Married in 1800 in Ramsey to Hannah Grounds and in 1823 to Ann Hoefield. My ancestor is his daughter Sarah Stokes 1814-1839 who married Ben Slote in Holme. Joiner is an odd name but I did find a Joiner Stokes boot repairer in Oundle who may be some connection. Thanks in advance for any help.  :)

Family History Beginners Board / 1939 Register
« on: Thursday 21 September 17 16:53 BST (UK)  »
I have recently found this a great help with tracing recent family history. I can't find Marjorie Ward born 22 Jan 1918 Norwood Green and Coley (Brighouse Halifax) on the 1939 register. She married David Gwyn Morris in Swansea May 17th 1945. Marjorie died 2nd Aug 1953 so she should be on the 1939 register. Parents were Charles Ward and  Elizabeth Francis Ward (Cox) Any help would be appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / Punjab D-Trait in white UK population
« on: Thursday 21 September 17 16:44 BST (UK)  »
My wife and I have 4 grandchildren. 2 are Punjab D-Trait positive. Both our son and daughter and my wife are also positive D-Trait. The condition is rare in the white population so a link with India is likely.
My wife's family came from Cavenham (1853) Suffolk/Norfolk border. Surnames WARD COX FOSTER RUDD. In 1939 in Thingo R D Suffolk. Were there any people from India living in this area? BTW The condition is only a problem if they marry another D-Trait person. Thanks for any help!
