Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Lookup RUSSELL please
« on: Monday 20 August 07 07:43 BST (UK)  »
Henry Edward RUSSELL, AKA William PORTER,  was sent to Parkhurst Prison in 1840, then on to Western Australia in 1843.  He was Aged 13 when sentenced at Surrey Sessions (Newington) 26 Oct 1840, so was born around 1826/28.

His father, William RUSSELL, was a glazier, according to Henry's marriage
certificate in Western Australia in 1849.  No mother's name unfortunately.

Could someone please lookup to see if William and/or Henry Edward
are on the Census 1831, or if there is a baptism for Henry, or marriage
for William?

Thanks very much

Surrey Lookup Requests / Duley/Dewley
« on: Sunday 12 August 07 13:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I am trying to trace the Duley/Dewley family.  The Duley/Dewley is spelt
phonetically, and the descendants have one or other variation.

"James Dewley the Younger" was a convict transported to Sydney NSW,
in 1829.

His native place was Egham Surrey, on the Certificate
of Freedom in 1836 in NSW.

His Place of Trial was Surrey QS  21 March 1829.
He was a laborer or farmer.

He was born 1807, parents believed to be James and Ann, but I'm not entirely
sure if he was born in Surrey...

Can anyone have a look at the trial for more info, or the Census
around the times mentioned please.

US Lookup Requests / CALHOUN, John; USA to Australia?
« on: Sunday 08 July 07 13:01 BST (UK)  »

Could someone please check how long John Calhoun was in the USA.

My John Calhoun was born in Londonderry, Ireland, about 1828,
son of John and Lavinia (Reid) Calhoun.

A John arrived in Melbourne, Australia, in June 1853 on board the "Eagle" from USA.  With him was a Henry Calhoun, of whom I have no knowledge.

Another John arrived in Melbourne in April, 1855, aged 24, on board the
"Lightning" which sailed from Liverpool.

I am trying to determine which is mine!

Thanks very much

Derry (Londonderry) / CALHOUN, John left Londonderry?
« on: Tuesday 03 July 07 13:21 BST (UK)  »
My ancestor John Calhoun, son of John and Lavinia (Reid)  Calhoun,
born 1828/30 in Londonderry, left Londonderry and arrived in Melbourne
Australia in 1847/55 (from various sources).

I am trying to track when he was actually born, when he left, and where he went on the way to Australia.

Any ideas please?

Yorkshire (North Riding) / JOHNSON, Lockton, Pickering
« on: Friday 29 June 07 09:44 BST (UK)  »

My Grandfather Charley/ie Johnson( b1894) came from Mount Cottage, Lockton, Pickering, and left with his older brother Bernard (b 1890), to travel to Australia.

Bernard unfortunately drowned in his new town of Kiama in NSW Aus.,
in 1913, so they travelled on or before that year.

I wonder if someone could help me to find out when they left Eng.,
and maybe why, inasmuchas did some major event happen in Lockton to
make them leave at a young age?

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Lookup Marriage please: COOPER
« on: Thursday 28 June 07 10:18 BST (UK)  »

I'm trying to trace the marriage of George and Sarah (nee PIDGEON) COOPER.

They travelled to Western Australia in 1857 on the "City of Bristol", departed
Southampton.  They came from Basingstoke, Hampshire.  Aldershot is
mentioned although I don't know in what context.

George was born 14/2/1836, and Sarah was born 28/8/1836, which would
have made them both 21 in 1857.  They appeared to arrive in Fremantle
on 28/8/1857 so she was under 21 when she married.  They don't seem
to have any children until 1862 when the first registered birth is listed in
Western Australia.

Can you help please,

Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Marriage LANGRIDGE, Joseph and Binnie Completed
« on: Thursday 28 June 07 09:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to trace the marriage of Joseph and Binni/e nee PINNER.

I only have information on their son Edward, born 1820/25 Brighton.
He was sentenced to transportation to Western Australia at the Maidstone
Assizes in March 1850.  Edward appears to have a wife (Susan/nah) and
daughter in the Kent area at that time.
