Wiltshire / Edwards clarification - Wardour
« on: Friday 01 July 22 21:25 BST (UK)  »
Grateful for some Rootschatting assistance please.

James Edwards b 1810 or 1811 Wardour/Ansty, probably baptised at the Roman Catholic Chapel.

Trying to clarify his parentage.

There are several Ancestry Trees which believe that his father was John Edwards from Fovant, however new Rootschatter Atalanta, thinks a more likely candidate might be Stephen Edwards, schoolmaster at Wardour School (RC).

Is his father John or Stephen or someone else?

Atalanta and my wife are descendants of James.

Thanks Kanskar

Hi, I have William Stokes as follows:

1841 - Woodford
1851 - Woodford
1861 - Burcombe Sq, Burcombe

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Emma West
« on: Tuesday 26 May 20 16:43 BST (UK)  »
Coming back to this lady after drawing a blank in 2009 (no replies)

Looking for Emma West born 1851 Leckford, Hants.

Eldest daughter of William West (occ-Shepherd) and Fanny (nee Jeffery)

In 1871, the Wests are living at the Dog Kennels in Wilton. Emma is Housekeeper (Unemployed) to her father William (who had been blinded by sunstroke) and the rest of the family (Fanny having died). William dies during the 1870s and I can trace her brothers and sisters, but Emma seems to have disappeared.

Where did she go ? Cannot see marriage or death for her.

Grateful please for any assistance. Thanks Kanskar

Apologies I think this should be in the Wiltshire forum not the lookups.

Wiltshire / The Clarks
« on: Friday 17 April 20 15:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have the Clark family in Castle St, Salisbury on the 1861 Census:

Frederic(k) Clark (45) Coach Builder - born London
Jane Clark (nee Garrett) (48) - Fruiterer - Hythe, Kent  (dies aged 49 in 1861)
George (22) Coach Body Maker  b Salisbury  1838-1929
Harry (20) Coach Painter b Salisbury            1840-1923
Kate (Eliza Catharine) (18) b Salisbury
Fanny (Fanny Louisa) (13) - Scholar - b. Salisbury
Alice (11) - Scholar - b. Salisbury                 1849-1930s

I cannot locate Frederick nor daughter Fanny after 1861 and Kate after 1871 (where she is still with the rest of the siblings at 24 Castle St).  None of them appeared to have died in the Salisbury area.

Can anyone assist in locating the elusive trio ?  Thanks Kanskar

London and Middlesex / Logan Narissa Rodway
« on: Thursday 08 December 16 22:11 GMT (UK)  »
Logan Narissa Rodway - Died Mar 1879 Qtr Camberwell 1d  469 (Freebmd has 0 yrs, GRO has 5 (presume months) old).

Cannot see a corresponding birth registration for her. I wonder whether she was also baptised?

Not sure if I am linked to her, but the lack of a birth reg is puzzling, particularly as the requirement to register had changed 4 years earlier.

Thanks
Kanskar

I would be grateful please for someone able to access ancestry images for a 1881 Lookup to clarify the entry.

I believe he is transcribed as Thomas Browman - Address is 48 Cumd St (it is in London, St Geo Hanover Sq area).  Wife (Emma) who is listed as E. Browman (birthplace transcribed as Brighton but I believe it is in fact Brightling).

Many Thanks

The Common Room / Ledbury or Liberty ?
« on: Monday 17 September 12 23:01 BST (UK)  »
James Rodway (born c 1784-1786) marries Maria Griffiths in Shoreditch in 1807. In the register entry, he states that he is from the Liberty of Norton Folgate (in London).

On the 1841 census he is listed as being born in county, yet in 1851 he states that he was born in Ledbury, Herefordshire.

Mary (Maria) dies around 1852 and in 1855 James remarries - to Mary Mercer.  In the register entry, he states that his father was William Rodway (a Wheelwright).

I've checked a number of places in Ledbury (and environs) for his baptism, but cannot see anything and am wondering if he is from the Liberty and the 1851 census is a mishearing.

I would be grateful for any assistance in resolving this query.  Is James from Ledbury or the Liberty ?

Cheers Kanskar
