Ross & Cromarty / Donald McKenzie born Milntown in Contin
« on: Wednesday 15 March 23 23:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have previously posted on this forum with little success.
I have recently obtained the birth certificate for whom I believe is my Donald McKenzie.
The certificate states that he was born and baptised on the 2nd September 1797.
His father was Kenneth McKenzie (a weaver) and no mother is listed.
It also states that he was born in Milntown of Contin.
Where do I start for looking for more information?
I will include the link for my previous post regarding Donald.

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=779535.msg6337442#msg6337442

Attached is the birth certificate for Donald in the County of Ross and Cromarty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Hilary

Tomorrow my dad would have celebrated his 100th birthday.
We are celebrating and will go to the church where he married our mother.
Can you work your magic on this wedding photo please. Both my parents have passed away.
Thanking you.

The Common Room / Police Lockup in Victoria, Australia
« on: Thursday 10 November 22 00:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm looking for background history for Portable Lockups which were used in Victoria Australia in the early 19th Century.
These were sometimes referred to as "Casterton style lockups. Is it possible that they came from Casterton in Victoria?
https://victoriancollections.net.au/items/59c8377121ea6c0dac1984fa
From my initial research these were manufactured in England and then sent to Australia in kit form and assembled here. Generally they were in Victoria only.
I will attach some photos, one of which we have in our Historical precinct in our town.
Any information would be gratefully received.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards,
Hilary

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / The Old Stables @ The Sunday Creek Inn
« on: Saturday 22 October 22 03:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Can you work your magic and remove the texta arrows and the sticky tape mark from this photo.
Sadly the hotel and stables are no longer there in Broadford, Victoria, Australia.
As it is History Month this month I want to include in a post about lost buildings. It also has a sad story. A young girl was murdered in the stables in the early 1900's.
Thanks for your help,
Hilary

Hi,
This photo is in pretty poor condition and someone used sticky tape once upon a time.
Is it possible to remove "the scars" and restore the photo?
Thanking you in anticipation.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Old Railway Crossing c1930's
« on: Wednesday 07 September 22 06:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am a member of the Broadford Historical Society and came across this photo of the level crossing at Broadford which looks like it was taken in the 1930's. The railway line is the main line between Melbourne and Sydney.
The crossing has long gone.
The photo is in pretty poor condition so I am hoping the wonderful people at RootsChat can work their magic.
Any improvement would be fantastic.
Regards,
Hilary

Australia / Gibson/Smith - William Gordan (which surname is correct?)
« on: Tuesday 07 September 21 02:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I have confusing information as to the true origins of Ronald Frederick Gibson.
His birth certificate (which I will attach) has his name as Ronald Frederick Smith. However, when he marries in 1950 he is Ronald Frederick Gibson. (certificate attached)
I have his father as William Gordan Gibson (DOB unknown) who married Elsie Alice Morris September 24th 1913 in NSW. Again, to add to the confusion I have a son born to William G as Stanley A Smith born abt 1914 in Port Macquarie. There seem to be other children but I can't find them.
Ronald Frederick married twice, firstly to Gweneth Allison Marx in 1950 and then to Marjorie Hazel Hateley (Thomson) abt 1973.
There is a rumour that William Gordon was already married and had a family in England although I cannot find anything to prove that theory.
Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.
Hilary
