Can anyone tell me if a Fowl Dealer in the 19th or early 20th century required a licence or permit to carry on business?

Does anyone else have the same difficulty as I have with irishgenealogy.ie?  I have been unable to get information from the site as when it prompts me to solve a "Captcha" it presents a blank space.
And my e-mails remain unanswered.

The Common Room / Spanish-American War
« on: Friday 31 May 13 06:22 BST (UK)  »
Is any member familiar with the Spanish-American War?  An ancestor served in the US Navy during this campaign.  According to family lore, an the end of the conflict he was offered a bonus of 100 dollars or alternatively 100 acres of land in Cuba.  He is reputed to have opted for the cash.

Was this a likely scenario?

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / US Naturalisation Card
« on: Friday 19 April 13 19:05 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me re the following?

I located an ancestor's Naturalisation Card on the LDS site.  On the front it has the usual details - Name, address, dob, witnesses, etc.

On the back of the card it reads as follows:

Other facts of record:

D-I  January 13 1897

Supreme Court, 1st Judicial District, City and County, State of New York.

I have looked at other applications and the rear of the card in many cases has no information listed.  In some, there is a reference to a change of name.

Can anyone explain the "fact of record" in my rellie's case?

Many thanks

Sean.
