Devon Lookup Requests / Susanna lLYLE/COOK /COKE in Holsworthy
« on: Thursday 08 March 12 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Trying to solve a difficult family history mystery. We have a susanna cook aged thirty three on the 1871 census in holsworthy .plymouth , carpenters widow, living with her three children, louisa aged 6, william H aged three and charles aged 7 months. Has been suggested that her maiden name was lyle and she married william coke aged 72 in 1865 in holsworthy. Not sure about the accuracy of this and wondered if anyone could find the parish record for this to check names, age, fathers names etc. ? It looks promising, but really not certain this is correct susanna. William on the 1861 census is down as a carpenter  in the right area, so could be good. But unable to find susanna on the 1861 census anywhere under name of lyle.  Can anyone help?? have discovered a susanna cook dying in holsworthy in about 1878, this maybe her. I think i would feel happier if i could find a birth for a susanna lisle/lyall in holsworthy area for around 1838.

Cumberland / arthuret burials macintosh
« on: Monday 08 August 11 21:19 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find a burial or burials of charles and margaret macintosh in or around arthuret/longtown, alston, or even over the border in canonbie. Charles was born to francis and hanna macintosh in 1750 in canonbie. He married margaret teasdale in 1774 in arthuret, and they also had connections to alston . One of their children, francis eventually moved over to lancashire in about 1800 , after the birth of his first child john, in canonbie in 1800. can anyone see if either margaret or charles were buried in arthuret parish??
thanks

Dumfriesshire / john macintosh born 1800 in canonbie
« on: Tuesday 26 July 11 23:09 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find a death of a john macintosh/mcintosh/mackintosh who was born in canonbie in 1800. His parents were francis macintosh born 1779 ish in alston cumbria i think, and mum sarah graham who married in 1799 in alston or arthuret in cumbria. Francis's parents were charles macintosh and margaret teasdale who married in alston/arthuret in 1774. But charles was born in 1751 /1750 in canonbie. His dad was Francis macintosh married in canonbie in 1730 to hanna forrester. Charles and also John have disapeared . John disappeared in 1837 in altham lancashire with no sign of a death or burial for him there, and no sign of him on any census.  So i wonder if he was buried back in canonbie. ? As maybe charles was too?? There is no sign of a death in alston cumbria or lancashire for charles or margaret. Canonbie is my last hope. John was a miner. His last known wife who he married in 1837 was margaret walsh in altham lancashire. He had a daughter isabella in 1838 in altham also. then he vanishes.
Can anyone help with this mystery family??

Lancashire Lookup Requests / john macintosh/mcintosh/mackintosh
« on: Friday 22 July 11 09:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me find a john macintosh in the 1841 census or 1851.  ? Its difficult because this man was last heard of getting married in February 1837 before civil registration to a mary walsh/hargreaves in altham st james , lancashire. He was not of that parish, but great harwood, just down the road. I had presumed he may have been born around 1800 and maybe similar age to his first wife, isabella readfearn/redfearn who he married in altham in 1821. In great harwood there are a lot of macintosh's who originally came from Alston in cumberland. Francis macintosh born about 1778 and his wife sarah nee graham. I am now considering that john is either the son of this francis , and maybe born in cumberland around 1800, as francis and sarah married in 1799. or possibly john as a brother of francis and maybe born around 1786 ish. Also in alston or arthuret in cumberland.
I have not found a death for john macintosh in altham or great harwood, and mary his second wife died still saying she was the wife of john macintosh although there is no sign of him on any census up to her death in 1858. It still says she is married on each census too, and all the children of john's first marriage have no mention of father being deceased on their wedding certificates.

A sign of him on a census for 1841 or 1851 would be a miracle. So he was eithe r born around 1800 in cumberland or great harwood or born a little  earlier, maybe 1786 in  cumberland.

Can anyone help solve this mystery. ??

Cumberland Lookup Requests / macintosh/mcintosh/mackintosh in alston
« on: Tuesday 19 July 11 21:58 BST (UK)  »
Trying to track a baptism of a john macintosh maybe in alston to a francis and sarah macintosh who married in alston in 1799. Francis's dad was charles. Sarah's maiden name was sarah graham. Francis and sarah at some point moved to great harwood and had a child mary in 1803 followed by many others. I am presuming john could have been born in or around alston as there is no sign of a baptism in great harwood. I have not got him, john, on any census. I know he married isabella readfearn in 1821 and i presume he was then around 18-21. Possibly nineteen or twenty? He then went on to marry mary walsh in 1837 in altham .
I have considered that john could be a brother of francis , and may have been born earlier, maybe 1780's. There is a john born in 1786, son of charles and margaret nee teasdale but he died in 1786 , so its not that one, a brother of the above francis.
Can anyone out there spot a baptism of john macintosh /mcIntosh/Mackintosh etc etc around 1800 hopefully to parents francis and sarah. ??
thanks

I forgot to mention that francis and sarah married in arthuret, not sure how far away from alston that is, so maybe john could have been baptised there?
I am unable to find a death for him , or a mention in the census of any year either, its like he just vanished after the birth of isabella  in 1838. i did find his son mentioned in the moorfield pit disaster, thomas macintosh was the mine manager at the time which was quite a sad story.
If anyone out there can spot a birth , baptism, census entry or death of john macintosh i would be so grateful.
hopefully
