Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Illegible address - please help!
« on: Monday 26 April 10 10:44 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me read this address please?  It is where my gt gt grandfather was listed as living on the 1861 Welsh census.  I figure the second word is mill as he and his family are all listed as millers but would like to try and find the mill.  The parish is listed as Llanfechain, the registration district is Llanfyllin, the sub-registration district is Llansaintfraid and the count is Montgomeryshire.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

« on: Thursday 06 August 09 10:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I'm trying to find William Charlton who was born in Sculcoates in the Sept quarter of 1850.  He appears on the 1881 census and onwards with his wife Eliza but I cannot find him on the 1851, 1861 or the 1871.  I am trying to find out who his parents were without ordering his birth certificate if possible.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Devon / John TREMEER - Senior & Junior
« on: Tuesday 31 March 09 08:49 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find John Tremeer born 1868 in Hartland, Devon and his father also John Tremeer born 1841 in Welcombe, Devon.

I have census records for John Snr and his wife Mary Ann for all census years except 1881.  I also have John listed on the 1871 census (transcribed as Tramcer) but nothing later.  I know he emigrated to Australia so would not appear on the 1901 but he should be on both the 1881 and the 1891.  Can anyone please help  ???

The Common Room / Google Books - Help!!
« on: Thursday 05 March 09 12:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I am not sure I have posted in the right place but would like some help with Google Books.  I have done a search for my husband's Gt grandfather's company and it has come up with several results.  I would love to view them but they are coming up as "snippet view" or "no preview available".  Does anyone know how I go about getting copies of these?  Any help would be appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Orphanages
« on: Thursday 12 February 09 11:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I would appreciate some general knowledge on the history of orphanages, particularly in the Yorkshire area, Doncaster especially around 1929.

My Gt Grandfather, Harry Hansford committed suicide in 1929 and being unable to get the coroners report (destroyed in a fire) I managed to get a copy of the local newspaper report.  There is a statement from his brother Fred which is as follows "So far as witness knew, his brother had nothing to worry about, except that his wife was in a convalescent home, and his adopted daughter was in an orphanage".  His wife Elizabeth was 53 at the time of his death.  I have no idea of a name and there is no knowledge of an adopted daughter in the family.

Any help as always is greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to start.

Scotland / Wills & Probate - Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 22 October 08 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I am trying to find the will of David Lawson born c1846.  He was the proptietor of a company called Lawson & Co who were building contractors and timber merchants.  He was listed on the 1901 census with his 2nd wife Anne and son William.  I can't seem to find a record of death for him though and don't know what happened to the company.  He had 2 sons to his 1st wife, David Jnr and James Lawson.  I have found the company listed in a trade directory for 1927.

Are there any wills/probate records online after 1901?   ???

Thanks, Goofy
