The Common Room / who was john chrichton?
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 21:24 BST (UK)  »
and before anyone says " the character out of that sci fi programme farscape" haha. no seriously. my friends house has been in her husbands family for at least 4 generations. but neither of them have the surname of chrichton nor has there been anyone of that surname for several generations. she found an old bible in the attic. but its no ordinary bible. its one that a priest would own. its got all the tables about finding out when the religious holidays are, and ordaining other priests, an has that its taken from the original by james the king 1502. it has a silver fastening with the words john chrichton 1st jan 1874 on the inside.
she is intrigued. is there any way we can find out who this man was without doing her family tree. as shes not interested in that. is there anywhere we can find out if there was a priest etc in that era with that name. we are in norfolk.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / marriage follow up census request please
« on: Monday 10 May 10 15:25 BST (UK)  »
hi

im trying to prove the impossible here.
the sisters of my ancestor charles turner ive not been able to find anywhere.
plus its been a while since i touched the research so im a bit rusty. moving house didnt help.
these girls all had common names so that makes things a little difficult.
so trying to prove that the marriages for them are the proper ones.
i have here
catherine mary turner born islington 1875.

so looking at marriages after 1891 when she turned 16.
ive found one in 1898 june quarter in edmonton where the family had been living at the time.
to either charles baskforth daniel (quite an unusual name here)
or samuel morley.

so are either of these men married to my catherine mary?
can anyone look them up in any of the census after that time to check on the age of htis wife to see if it is our girl.

ive found most of the rest of the tree except for these sisters. its very frustrating.

ive checked births after 1910 to see if there are any daniel/turner births or morley briths
for the first one there is just 2 unfortunately after the 1910 census
robert sep 1914 and lily jun 1917

for the morley one there are loads. too many to check on.

can someone help me solve this mystery.

Occupation Interests / help please with this post office owner/manager
« on: Monday 11 January 10 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
hi
trying to help my boyfriend fill in his family tree. his mother was surname howard. unfortunately his grandparents were all dead by the time he was born. but he does know that his mothers father was a squadron leader presumably in the raf, and that when he retired he ran a post office with his wife saffron walden way. all he knows is that they lived in a thatch cottage that burnt down. now whether that included the post office or was a seperate issue i have no idea. but youd have thought i would have been able to look that up wouldnt you. all i seem to keep getting is a place near there that burnt down in the 1800's which is too late.
can anyone help.
his mother was in her 50's when she died 5 years ago so i think we are looking i think circa 40-50's.
sorry i have so little to go on

World War One / teenagers killed in early stages of ww1
« on: Wednesday 06 January 10 16:37 GMT (UK)  »
hi
my grandfather had 2 older brothers born c1897 and 1898 that were sent off to fight in the first ww and who died the same year i believe within weeks of each other. no exact dates only that they were both only kids really. never even had time to marry or have kiids.
dont know anything about them. my grandad died in 1975 and did not talk about his family at all. i have a photo of them all taken in 1911. a real shame that the boys were killed just a few years later. but id liek to find out a few details about them. what regiment they served with, where they died and are buried etc. but i dont know where to even start.
their names were george and charles turner and they were born in islington and lived in london.

my grandfather was the only male to survive both the wars his only surviving brother being killed in the last throws of ww 2. within months of it being over.

any help out there for me with this. where do i start.

amy martha scarlett possibly married charles thomas wilkinson in wandsworth in dec qtr 1896. if this is the right Amy Scarlett she should have been born c1880 Ramsgate in kent. births wilkinson to scarlett after 1911 is Florence born
Bury Sep qtr 1915. are there any pre 1911, a 1901 would reveal this possibly
then this is one for the 1911 next year hoorah.

Kent / 1901 stephen Aiano living Isle of Wight but born kent
« on: Monday 08 September 08 08:51 BST (UK)  »
i have a 1901 census report for a Stephen Aiano who is 35 a grocers clerk born canterbury living with Helen Helyer servant age 33 housekeeper at west villa stables park rd ryde isle of wight.
but he doesnt fit in anywhere with the rest of the family.
i dont have anyone who has a son called Stephen this late in the family. so is he a descendent of the original family Stephen? that is the only time the name appears in the family. there there are 2 in a row. one born 1787 his son born 1832. could he be their descendent or where has he come from.
as all the Aiano in this country are linked it would be nice to fit him in.

can anyone help.

Kent / who is lucy aiano
« on: Monday 08 September 08 08:44 BST (UK)  »
i have widow of stephen aiano , Ann living in 1851 with her 2 adult children catherine age 33 and elizabeth age 21 both out of place servants.
living at white horse lane st marys bredman. recieving parish releif
but living with them is Lucy Aiano age 5 grandaughter.
now as far as i can make out they only had one son to pass on the Aiano name stephen and he was born in 1832 making him a little young to have a 5 year old daughter.
am i missing an older son or has one of the daughters been bad (there were 2 younger than stephen) and she is one of their daughters.
in 1851 they were indexed as Riano but judging from the mixed results i have for this surname they could be indexed as just about anyone!!! from Ains through Avans to would you beleive Higham.
dad of the family stephen senior died in 1849.
i have them in 1841 but only the one son.

can anyone help.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / where was Joseph Curtis Giles in 1891
« on: Sunday 07 September 08 08:57 BST (UK)  »
born in 1880 he is with his parents as a baby in 1881., previously we thought he was mispelt as Eustace but i have had confirmation that there was a Eustace as well.
he definetly is still alive as we are his descendents. so where is Joseph? is he with the Aianos as his brother did an apprenticeship with them and inherited their business. he would have only been 11.
he married Rosa Paterson and had my grandad ion 1901 so where is he in this one crucial census
other descendents i have talked to dont even seem to realise his existence which is really annoying. presumably they think the baby Joseph had died.

can anyoine help.
