Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / My Heritage DNA
« on: Monday 06 June 22 15:31 BST (UK)  »
Any ideas please..... My daughter has just received her results from her My Heritage DNA test.

I am mostly English (as far as I know - I've just had my test done and am waiting for results) , a touch of Irish and a smidgen of Italian from my Greatx5 grandfather. My husband is Breton for many, many generations. Nearly all of his ancestors came from nearby villages or towns.

Although the result does not give my daughter as French, it does give her as 53.4% Irish, Scottish, Welsh - which I suppose is the Celtic connection between Brittany and those countries, plus my drop of Irish. She is 32% English (from me I would imagine).

What intrigues her is that she has 6.3 % Iberian and 7.2 % North African. She also has 1.1 % Nigerian. The North African and Iberian does seem quite a lot.

Would this be from her Breton/French side?

My brother had a test done via Ancestry some time back and he is 86 % England, Wales and N W Europe and 11% Ireland/Scotland. So it would seem no North African on our side....

How reliable is My Heritage? Someone I know has just had her results and, although her family tree shows her as English, English and more English, her results said 48% Scandinavian and 50 per cent Irish, Scottish, Welsh!

I would be very interested to hear you thoughts and explanations.

Many thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Removing the marks of old selotape
« on: Tuesday 09 February 21 19:03 GMT (UK)  »
Good evening,

Would anyone be able to do something to this old card so that the old selotape marks do not show up any more?

Christopher Lancaster was my grandfather and I am writing a family history book for my cousins and would like to put a scan of this on the last page.

Many thanks to anyone who can help!

Sussex / Mary Peryer née Fuller - Date of death
« on: Friday 22 January 21 15:18 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

I am trying to find the death of Mary Peryer (could be spelt Perryer, or Perrier), née Fuller. According to the 1851 census, she was born in abt 1813 in Rudgwick. In the 1861 census, Thomas (living in Rudgwick) is a widower.

According to other trees on Ancestry, her death was in 1857. I ordered the death cert and have just received it. I am pretty sure it is not my Mary Peryer.

The death certificate states the following : name Mary Perver, widow of Thomas Perver, a Miller. Informant Charlotte Perver. Died 25th January 1857, aged 78, in Compton.           I have found a Thomas Perver on FreeBMD, death registered in Chichester in 1843, also a Charlotte Perver who died in Sussex in 1877. So it certainly looks as if the info on the Ancestry trees is wrong.

But I cannot find my Mary Peryer! The exact address in the 1851 census is Mill Hill, Rudgwick.

I would be very grateful for any help in finding the right Mary Peryer.

Many thanks

The Common Room / Hampshire House Parliament
« on: Monday 12 October 20 15:43 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

I have just found some information about my grandfather, Christopher Lancaster, who apparently campaigned with Lloyd George and Campbell Bannermann in 1910 and then became "Commissioner of Works in the Hampshire House Parliament in 1911". I cannot find any information at all on internet. What was the Hampshire House Parliament" ???

I would be very grateful for any help.

Many thanks

« on: Saturday 23 May 20 15:16 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

I would be very grateful if someone could colour in this photo for me, please. It is of some of my aunts and one uncle, dated 1928. The girls all had brown hair, except for Elsie who is the little blonde girl in the front. I am going to share it with my cousins whose mothers are on the photo.

Many thanks in advance

London and Middlesex / Kathleen Stevens - born 1920 in Paddington
« on: Monday 27 April 20 16:15 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

I am trying to help my cousin's wife start her mother's family tree. However, she has very little information.

Her mother's name was Kathleen G Stevens. The "G" might stand for "Gwendoline" or "Georgia" (one of her daughter's names).

She was, the family story goes, born on the 29th February, 1920 and her birth is sometimes given as the 1st March 1920 (ie on her death record).

She married a George Geary in Paddington in 1939, registered in October. He was born on the 24th March, 1918.

I cannot find Kathleen in the 1939 register, either under Stevens or Geary (I can't find George Geary either).

I have sent off for their wedding certificate, but as it is coming to me here in France it might take some time.

I would be very grateful for any help finding her birth or any other information. There is nothing that fits for her birth on FreeBMD or on Ancestry.  My cousin is not completely sure of the year of birth, but I can only find a Kathleen G Stevens born in 1918 and registered in St Georges Hanover Square, which covers Paddington.  However, this was not a leap year!

Many thanks for any help or ideas!

London and Middlesex / School in Hammersmith 1890s
« on: Thursday 05 March 20 15:46 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

Could anyone tell me which school a girl would have been likely to attend in Hammersmith in the late 1890s (1896 to 1904).

Margaret Peryer was 7 years old in 1896 and lived in The Friends' Meeting House, Lower Mall where her father was caretaker.  I have found her brother, Maurice, at Waterloo Street School, but this seems to be boys only.

Many thanks for any help/ideas.

London and Middlesex / Overstone Road, Fulham
« on: Thursday 16 January 20 16:22 GMT (UK)  »
Good afternoon,

My grandfather, Christopher Lancaster, is given in the electoral lists and his wedding cert as living in Overstone Road in Fulham. This would be in the early 1900s, from 1905 to 1913. However, the house number changed a few times - Number 63 in 1905, 20 in 1909 and number 90 in the 1911 census.

From the Electoral Register, Overstone Road was full of "dwelling houses". Is it possible that the house numbers changed? Or did he simply move?

Any thoughts please?

Many thanks

Sussex / Birth of Michael Peryer - Rudgwick, Sussex
« on: Tuesday 15 October 19 14:55 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon, I am desperately hunting for the birth of Michael Peryer  :-\  I can find him in all the censuses, his death, electoral registers, his childrens' baptisms, his marriage..... but no birth. I have tried FreeBMD, Ancestry, Family Search and FindMyPast with all the various spellings I can think of, and a phonetic search. I have had one last look before posting this message, just in case, but no luck. It seems he was beamed down by a spaceship as I cannot find him anywhere. From the various censuses, his year of birth is 1846 and I have tried ten years either side. His parents were Thomas Peryer and Mary Fuller.  I should be VERY grateful for any help finding him. Many thanks. Tilly  :)
