Leitrim / Francis Kelly
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

My wife's 2 x Great Grandfather was Francis Kelly, born in Mohill, Co. Leitrim, in about 1816/17.

We know that he and his wife came in England and settled in London, aged 28 years he joined the Metropolitan Police, on the 20th October, 1845.

Obviously we would like to know more of his ancestry, can anyone help with this, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Devon / Where would a Baptism take place in Exeter for Mowbray House Nursing Home
« on: Wednesday 29 October 14 19:11 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find my wife’s place ( church ) and date of baptism.

She was born on 1940's at Exeter, having been evacuated from London during WW2, and christened Beverley, returning to London after the war.

Her birth certificate shows she was born at Mowbray House Nursing Home, the registration district shown as Exeter, in the County Borough of Exeter.  The family were at the time living at 13 Clinton Street, Exeter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Richard Moore - Portsmouth
« on: Tuesday 06 September 11 13:22 BST (UK)  »
Richard Moore was born in Portsmouth according to all the Census 1851-1891 , they give varying ages but he would have been born there between 1812-1816.

He was married in 1841 at Queenborough, Kent , and gave his father name as John William Moore, a Shipwright.

I have been unable to find the baptism of Richard or the marriage of John William so any help would be appreciated.

Australia / Irene Bertha MORFEY
« on: Friday 26 August 11 11:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

The 1936 Kalgoorlie Division of the Australian Electoral Roll has the following members of my family listed at Sandstone :-

John Morfey,   Prospector, and his son
John Thomas Morfey, also a prospector.

My research to date has shown that John never remarried in Australia, he had a wife back in England.

John Thomas married an Elizabeth White Bryden in Oz,  I believe sometime during the second world war.

The 1936 Electoral has an Irene Bertha Morfey listed at Sandstone, apparently with them, she is shown as Home Duties.

My questions are :- Who is Irene ?   Was she a wife of either of my relatives ?  If so were there any children of that relationship ?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sussex / Weller - Help needed
« on: Monday 04 April 11 09:30 BST (UK)  »
I am having a great deal of trouble finding the date and place of birth of my great grandfather Alfred Weller.   On the 28th April 1879 he married Sarah Ann Wood at the parish church at Northiam, East Sussex.   Alfred is 22 years of age, living at Northiam, and his father is William Weller.   Thus Alfred should have been born around 1856/57.   According to the PR's he was not baptised at Northiam.

The 1881 Census has Alfred as 27 years old, born at Northiam, living with his wife Sarah in the Rye District.

They have two children Rosa ( my Grandmother ) and Agnes both children born in Rye Foreign in the mid 1880's.

I have the necessary certificates for the marriage of  Alfred and Sarah, the births of the two girls and their subsequent marriages, at all times Alfred is referred to as just Alfred.

I have a death certificate  for Alfred as Frederick Alfred Weller,  he dies 8th June 1888 at Rye Foreign, aged 31. Present at time of death is Sarah Wood, likely to be his mother in law.

Sarah Ann , a widow, remarries at Rye in 1891.

The register office for Hastings and Rother say that there is no birth registered at the at or around the appropriate time for either Alfred or Frederick Alfred.

Can anyone help solve my problem ?

Australia / Emigration of Edmund Alfred MORFEY 1908
« on: Monday 30 March 09 19:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My granduncle Edmund Alfred Morfey, was born on 15-10-1877, at Rye Foreign,
East Sussex, England. I have never been able to find a marriage or death for him over here.

On findmypast.com I found a Mr. E. A. Morfey, 30 years, singleman, farmer , on the passenger list of the Salamis sailing from London to Sydney on the 27-10-1908, unfortunately they do not have any further information on the entry.

It may well be that the passenger is my granduncle and I would be very grateful if anyone could help out with further information or suggestions as to where to look next.

Thanks,

Ian

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Southwark - Help needed
« on: Sunday 02 December 07 12:00 GMT (UK)  »
My g/g/g/father Thomas Daniels married Anne Cruttenden on the 22-7-1796 at Beneden, Kent, the family shortly after moved to East Sussex where we have been since.

An entry in the 1861 Census for Salehurst, East Sussex, shows a Susannah Leawood aged 72 years living with an established relative of mine, John Daniels. She is shown as being John's sister and her place of birth is Southwark, London.

If the census record is correct Thomas must have been married previously and at sometime been in London.

Thomas died in 1839 in Sussex, aged 73 years, so he must have been born around 1765/1766. perhaps in Southwark

Susannah must have been born around 1788/1789. at Southwark

Any help to establish the births of either or both would be very much appreciated .  Likewise with the possible first marriage of Thomas.

Thanks IMF

Cambridgeshire / Bareford - Swaffham Bulbeck
« on: Saturday 10 November 07 10:54 GMT (UK)  »
I  have traced my wife's maternal line back to Samson Bareford, baptised 5-4-1839 at Swaffham Bulbeck.

His parents are shown as John and Sarah Barefoot.

The 1841 Census at Swaffham Bulbeck shows a William Barefoot living adjacent to John and Sarah.

Please could someone help by looking up to see if William was the father of John.
