Sussex Lookup Requests / Lookup please - Criminal Records For Sussex & Kent 1805-1816

Hello all

If possible could someone lookup to see if there are any entries for a Phillis/Philladelphia Heasman/Heaseman.

I have previously found her record @ the Old Bailey in 1815 under the name of Phineas Eastmond, however before the offence in 1815 it seems she had been sent to the Refuge For The destitute for a prior crime.

Just a stab in the dark her as Phillis was born in Sussex circa 1795.

Good evening all

If possible can someone lookup a death entry for me please - my discs r still not loading onto my new laptop.

Sarah Gales death yr 1882. Her mother was Matilda & father Joseph.

I think Sarah may have come back to Oz after separating from her husband Henry Gales. They married in London 1870.

Hello everyone

I have just come across an entry on the Australian Newspaper site "Trove" concerning my Joseph George Richmond in the Launceston Examiner in 1870.

This is some of the transcription.

Gales - Richmond -Nov 27 - Henry Gales Esq to Sarah, eldest daughter of the late Joseph George Richmond Esq of Burnopside Hall Durham and of Perth Tasmania.

This blew me away as this confirms family hearsay that the Richmonds were originally from Durham perhaps.

Here is what I have on Joseph -

Born circa 1800 unknown area
Married Matilda Pitt 1840 Launceston - recorded as free on cert.
8 children born to the couple between 1842-1857 - all Tasmania - 1 son only
Joseph died 1857 Longford Tasmania
Wife Matilda moves to Victoria & then travels to Eng & brings their son George & leaves him as a pupil in Stockton-on-Tees - he is recorded on the 1861 census there. She also brings a daughter Sarah with her. Sarah I suspects marries Henry Gales in London.
Wife Matilda remarries supposedly  a Christopher Ffrench & returns to Australia.

I am now very interested in finding out how & when Joseph arrived in Oz. I have had no luck in finding any records of his immigration in Oz.

Also I am interested in Burnopside Hall?????

Hoping someone can understand my dribble & throw some ideas my way

Hi everyone -

I am trying 2 track down what happened to my Mrs Mary Cleaver & children after the death of her husband John in WA in 1849.

I found some info online last night relating 2 an entry 4 John in the Bicenntianial Directory Of WA in which it states that Mrs Cleaver, son John & daughters Martha & Fanny departed 10/3/1853 onboard the Queen Of Netherlands for the East States.

Unfortunately 4 the life of me I did not bookmark this site. I have looked 4 any bdms in WA relating 2 any of the missing family & have come up with zilch.

I googled the ships name & found that the ship arrived in SA in the year 1853.

If possible could someone lookup in the SA Indexes 4 me please. My discs unfortunately r not working - grrrrrrr.

Hi everyone

I was trolling 2day through the Oz site "Trove Newspapers" & found some amazing info relating your my Nolan family from Minnesota.

I found a death notice for my ggrandmother from a niece called Mary Jordan and all the relatives  from St Paul's Minnesota.

Mary Jordan was a niece to my grandfather John Nolan b c 1869 St Pauls Minnesota. Thanks 2 loads of kind peeps I have the census info on my John & also his sister Mary. The complexing bit is that I only thought Johns sister Mary had 1 son called Robert J Logie. I have most of Roberts details as well & there is never any mention of a Mary Jordan.?????????????????

This has totally thrown me - there must have been another sister called Mary somewhere.


Hoping someone can throw some light on the subject & show me where  2 look next. lol

Australia / General question concerning travel from SA to WA late 1800's

Good morning all

Have finally decided 2 get stuck back into my genealogy & am actually beginning 2 write some sort of book etc.

I just have a question concerning how peeps would have travelled from SA to WA circa 1890/1900. Still trying to track down  my elusive ggrandfather Henry Bruce. Would  there have been any  shipping lists etc? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question.

Had a look through the SA Resources Board - some great sites listed there 4 sure. Could not find anything re shipping lists to WA.

 I have him born circa 1886, in apparently SA, then have him on the Electoral Roll in 1903 WA .I have posted previously for searches in SA regarding his birth but no luck & many thanks 2 the kind peeps who helped me with that 1.

Hoping someone who can help with my query regarding the shipping list & if they existed @ all.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help needed to decipher crime of young Richard

If possible could some one have a look at the writing below & see if you can decipher the crime that Richard Pitt was convicted off please.

Have been studying it all yesterday - for the life of me do you think i can work out what it is  :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

This is new info for me regarding Richard's crime so its a real bonus.

Hello everyone -

I have stumbled across a marriage entry that I found on the Irish Genealogy website for the following couple

John Graddy & Catherine Healy - I have a pretty good hunch that this must be my gggrandparents.
Info is as follows
John Graddy - husband
Catherine Healy - wife - she is from Leitrim
In the further details section there is alot of NR listed however the witnesses were a William Graddy & a Patrick Graddy.

My question is as to where to go/look next to follow up any leads or info regarding this entry?

I am afraid I am a complete novice when it comes to my Irish ancestors.

Hoping someone can throw some ideas my way.

Australia / Convict - Phillis HEASEMAN/HEASMAN NSW 1816 - onwards - tracking her time in NSW

Good evening all

Well I am still trying to track the movements of my convict girl Phillis Heaseman/Heasman/Neaseman/Eastmond (aliases just to name a few).

My question and puzzle is to how she ended up in VDL circa 1820/1821 where she married fellow convict Richard Pitt. Searches in the past have come up with zilch in regards to any records of her arriving in VDL.

Here is what I have on her before her marriage in VDL to Richard.

- Convicted @ the Old Bailey under the name of Phineas Eastmond 5th April 1815.
- Transport on the Mary Anne 1 arriving NSW 19/1/1816.
- Absconds & is reported to be missing from the 4/10/1817 till the 17/1/1818 ( this info I found on the NLA Newspapers site - great resource).
- On a list of prisoners to be sent to Newcastle per Lady Nelson 12th May 1818 - it states she was convicted by a Mr Wentworth on the 4th May 1818 for 1 yr.

Thats it until she shows up in VDL where she married a Richard Pitt in 1821 Launceston.

I am not sure if I can find anything else on Phillis I think maybe I have come to the end of the line here. Any ideas peeps on where I can go to next ??????

Edit - Phillis's original sentence @ the Old Bailey was for a term of 7 years.
