Northumberland / Williamson - Wallsend
« on: Saturday 28 February 09 15:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me ?

I am in the process of  researching my wider family tree and would like to find out more about a George Williamson.  Unfortunately at the moment I have very little to go on except that he was born in Wallsend/Willington in 1927/8 and married Margaret Ann Flynn at St Marys Willington in the late 1940s (1949?). His father worked   in the Wallsend coal mine.

If anyone has any access to the St Mary's records or anything else that may help I would be very grateful for any information.

Thanks in anticipation.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / McNaughton Haddington
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 23:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
My 4G Grandfather John McNaughton was born in Haddington around  1805 but moved as a boy to Newcastle to work as a Blacksmith in the mines.

We believe that his father was James McNaughton but our current knowledge ends at this point.

I appreciate that there were probably many McNaughtons living in this area at this time but if anyone access to any records which may help us I would be very grateful.
Thanks and regards

Northumberland / Arnot / Tweedmouth
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
My 3G Grandfather  John Arnot was born in Tweedmouth around 1817.
He married Agnes (b around 1818)  from Kyloe and had a number of children the earliest that we have found in 1845.

To date we have not been able to confirm the date of their marriage, Agnes's surname and have a more than one possibility for John's parents.

I anyone has access to any records which might help us with this brick wall I would be very grateful for their help.

Thanks in anticipation and best regards

Durham / Mystery In Jarrow / Royal Oak Public House
« on: Tuesday 30 October 07 00:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I wonder if anyone can help,

A relative once told us of a mystery or problem in the family history .... in his words "south of the river".

In this branch of the family this can only be in the Robertson family, the 1881 census shows the head, Alexander, as managing barman of the Royal Oak Public House in Jarrow  but by the 1891 census he is working as a labourer in the brewery (which brewery?)  in South Shields. By 1901 he has crossed the river to work in the ship yard.

Also on 1881 census there is a comment in the Rank / occupation column against Alexander's youngest daughter  Margaret (4years) which I can not read.

The help I would like to help build up a picture would be:
1. Any link to a picture of the Royal Oak Inn as close to  this time as possible.
2. Any link to history which might suggest  why AR might have left the position of managing barman for what seems a lower position ... any problems ?
3. Which brewery was based in South Shields in 1891.
4. If anyone can make out the comment  against Margaret  in the census return.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards

Northumberland / Southern Willington Quay
« on: Friday 12 October 07 00:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have hit a brick wall with my 4G Grandfather William Southern he was born in Willington Quay around 1781.  He was a Keelman.

We believe his wife was Catherine but have not so far been able to find a record of their marriage. Their son William was my 3G Grandfather.

If anyone has access to any records which might help us  solve this one and move on beyond William senior your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
best regards

Hi

I wonder if anyone has any records which might help me.

My 2G Grandfather George Oliver Robson was born in 1842 in Stamfordham. His father was John Robson (1805) of Heugh and mother  Abigail (1804) of Cheeseburn Grange.

Any help with marriage of John and Abigail (to confirm her surname) or birth registration of John would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any response.

« on: Saturday 01 September 07 10:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to work back to link my ancestors to the "infamous" Robson Border Reiver families.
So far I have reached Stamfordham in mid 1700s so still a long way to go !!

If anyone has and tips / information on the Robson Reiver families and making the links to them I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Occupation Interests / Tyne Keelmen
« on: Saturday 01 September 07 10:33 BST (UK)  »
A number of our ancestors were employed as Keelmen, carrying coal on the river Tyne, in the latter part of the 18th century / first half of the 19th century.

Particular families  of interest being Southern / Brown of Wallsend &  Fulthorp / Crow of Whickham.

Any links / advice / information relevant to the work / lives of the Keelmen at this time would be greatly appreciated.
