World War One / 'Sandbagged' in Egypt
« on: Monday 07 December 09 11:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
My g/grandfather served in ww1. The family story is that he was sandbagged while on duty outside an ammunition store in Egypt then left in the desert for 2 days. He did survive though he suffered with very bad head problems for the rest of his life.
Could anyone help me by clarifying 'sandbagged'? Does it mean he was coshed?
Unfortunately the only picture i have of him is in a ww1 hospital and the uniform has no badges etc on it.
Many thanks for looking

Worcestershire / Pearsall- a murderer in the family???
« on: Tuesday 27 January 09 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
I always thought my family was full of nailmakers/ag labs and that nothing really interesting happened but...
It seems that my g/g/g/grandfather George Pearsall may have died in Broadmoor after being arrested for murdering his wife Harriot/Harriett.  She died in the 1st quarter of 1888  & they lived in Oldswinford.
Where could i find more info on this? are there any newspaper archives online or court records?

would love to know what happened
thanks

The Common Room / Death at Sea 1912??
« on: Saturday 11 October 08 09:24 BST (UK)  »
While reasearching my family i was told by a recently found distant relative that my g/g/grandfather supossedly died at sea.
I would love to be able to confirm this but don't know where to look.

His name was Thomas W Morris born 1864 and he supposedly died whilst on board the HMS Montreal. He may have been a crew member. The ship was travelling from Ireland to Canada in 1912. He supposedly was then buried in Montreal.
Thomas had a very young large family at the time living in the Middlesex area.

Where would i begin to check this out?
Many thanks for any thoughts you might have

The Common Room / About to give up!!
« on: Thursday 09 October 08 17:16 BST (UK)  »
I have tried all the ways i know to try and find out more about my great grandfather, but thought i would try one last time on here as you are a clever lot!!.
My g/grandfather was Walter Davies.  As he died in 1925 i only have the information off his wedding cert & death cert to go by.

Walter Davies married Ann c Rowlands Sept 1917. His age at time was 23. His fathers name on the cert is Richard Davies, occupation farm labourer.
Walters address at time was Rhydgarnedd llanegryn, his occupation was Private 14th battalion S. Lancashires.
Walter died in Tywyn in  Nov 1925 (age 32)

Has anyone any ideas of where to look next? I really am stuck!!
Thanks
Jane

The Common Room / family Tree Makers??
« on: Tuesday 12 August 08 17:02 BST (UK)  »
I have tried a couple of family tree maker programmes and found that both wouldn't let me add parents without having to have them as married.  i.e illegitimate child both parents are known. Also they were very akward to navigate.

Can anyone reccomend a family tree maker??

Thanks
