A lady called Grace Harland was administratrix of his estate.

Any help would be great!

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Gilson/Gibson - Barking Tye, Suffolk
« on: Friday 05 April 24 22:51 BST (UK)  »
Evening all,

I'm looking for info of a miller at Barking Tye.  He went by the name of William Gilson or Gibson.  He was there in 1805, along with Barnaby Gilson (father/brother/son?).

Barnaby seems to have remained there till about he died in 1823, and Thomas (son?) took over, till between 1830 & 1841.

Any early (pre-1805) info would be great, but also ant infilling stuff would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Windy

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Thomas Quarry and Hubakkuk Layham
« on: Monday 09 October 23 22:42 BST (UK)  »
Evening everyone.

This is a cross-border raid.  The gents names above were involved in a business in Wortham, Suffolk in the early 1700s.  Hubakkuk Layham was a surgeon based at Diss, and Thomas Quarry was a yeoman who was based in South Lopham.  So they are both from Norfolk.

I'd be interested in any help establishing a connection between them an Wortham, other than it being very close to their homes  :D

Cheers,
Windy

Suffolk Lookup Requests / William Fingay, Wortham, c.1719 - 1745?
« on: Tuesday 15 August 23 11:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

My latest trip to The Hold has given me another miller.  This chap is called William Fingay and he was living in Wortham.

The records show that a William Fingay was alive in 1717 and later, in 1745, another William Fingay was referenced in regard to a Will made by his grandfather (you guessed it; William Fingay).

Any help in establishing death dates for the Williams would be of great help, so that I might be able to seperate them out.

Thanks, as always,

Windy

PS Fingay is a strange name, and I have to say I've never come across it in Suffolk before.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Mr. Garrard of Finningham
« on: Thursday 03 August 23 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi Suffolk Lookup community,

I have just discovered a Mr. Garrard who was a miller at Finningham who died c.1793/07/24 according to the Bury & Norwich Press.  I can see that a Daniel Garrard was alive & kicking in 1793, but is he the ame man (B&NP 1793/06/26)?

Is anyone could furnish me with his first names (or confirm he was Daniel) that would be brilliant! (Any other info great appriciated too, as always)

Cheers in advance,
Windy

Kent Lookup Requests / John Reeve, Rolveden, Kent (1791-1871)
« on: Monday 24 July 23 10:28 BST (UK)  »
I've digressed from my usual mill related research to helping my wife with her family tree, so I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this chap.

All we know is that he was her gggg-grandfather.  He was Kentish, and Married Philly Elphee (aka Elfy) in 1812 in Rolveden, Kent.  Later connections are from (relatively) near-by New Romney area, so he might have been from there.

He clearly had children as John Reeve (his son) married Martha Robson at New Romney in 1835.

Anyway, any info on John Reeve, the elder, would be greatly appreciated!

Lanarkshire / Duncan McGilvray & Margaret McAllister
« on: Sunday 23 July 23 16:49 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon all,

Could anyone help me find details on Hugh & Maragaret who married in, I think, Glasgow?  Both were born in about 1843 (Hugh's roots being, I'm told, in Uist and Maraget in Ireland).

They seem to have settled in Glasgow where it appears they had 10 children between 1862 and 1886.

Any thing would help!

Cheers,
Windy

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Bumstead/Bumpstead
« on: Tuesday 20 June 23 18:03 BST (UK)  »
Once again I'm asking about this chap, John Bumsteads, though he might just me a relly of the otherf J.B.!

I have him in Wortham, Suffolk in about 1740, and wanted to know if there are ANY entries for him around that time in the Parisg registrer?  I also was wondering if he might have been a Roydon boy (Norfolk), but he was certainly a Copyhold tenant of Wortham Abbotts.

Any help would be fantastic!

Suffolk / Roydon Dort (or Doct), Wortham
« on: Tuesday 20 June 23 10:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right place to make a request about a place, rather than a name.

I'm looking for the location of a field, or strip of land, that in the 18thc was called Roydon Dort (or Doct) and was sited somewhere in the Parish of Wortham.  I'm guessing that it may have been to the north (near Roydon, Norfolk), but there is conflicting evidence that it was nearer to Magpie Green.

Any local knowledge on this place would be great!
