I am researching the war graves in Ryhope Cemetery Sunderland. There is a CWGC headstone for Pte. William Marshall (service no. 25999) of the 3rd Reserve Btn. Sherwood Foresters. His battalion came to the North East as part of the East Coast Defence, sadly William died 28th November 1915 at was when then known as Cherry Knowle Asylum, Ryhope, Co. Durham.
Have struggled to find details about his early life, I have a marriage to Emily Alice Bowring at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Nottingham on the 13th August 1894 and found 8 children from this marriage. But I am a little unsure if this is the correct William Marshall.
Would be grateful for any information regarding William's early life.
When completed the research will be forwarded to the North East War Memorial Project website (www.newmp.org.uk) to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks

Lancashire / Final Resting Place of Bryan John Molloy (1914 - 1948)
« on: Sunday 22 August 21 19:22 BST (UK)  »
Bryan was tragically killed in a shipyard accident in Sunderland on the 24th March 1948. The inquest report gives his address as Henson Avenue, Blackpool. My research into deaths which occurred in Sunderland shipyards includes information on the date of burial, cemetery, plot no. and if there is a headstone.
I would be more than grateful if anyone can provide me with any details of Bryan's final resting place.
Though not from Sunderland Bryan will still be remembered as one of hundreds of men who lost their lives in tragic circumstances in the shipbuilding industry on the River Wear.

Thanks

World War One / Army Order V1 of 1919 & Pte. John Williamson
« on: Tuesday 16 February 21 18:32 GMT (UK)  »
John Williamson (1867 - 1920) enlisted into the Army Service Corps (No. 126613) on the 21st July 1915, on the 4th December 1918 he was transferred home for release as a coal miner. Then on the 21st May 1919 he reenlisted under Army Order V1 of 1919 joining the Labour Corps (No. 694580).
What I am trying to find out is whether he would have reenlisted on his own initiative or would he have been recalled as a result of the Army Order?
Sadly John took ill while in France and was evacuated back to the U.K. and transferred to Wharncliffe War Hospital, Sheffield where on the 22nd February 1920 he died. He was laid to rest in Ryhope Cemetery, Sunderland.

Derbyshire / Charles Edward Haynes (Baptism)
« on: Saturday 29 August 20 20:42 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find the baptism of my grandfather Charles Edward Haynes born 31st December 1879 at 24 Upper Dale Road, New Normanton Derby. He was the son of Edward & Ann Haynes (nee Palmer). His elder brother Edwin born at the same address was baptised 1878 at St. Giles Church, Normanton, but I did not find my grandfather's baptism at this church.
Would be grateful for any information.

Northumberland / John & Bridget Purcell 1881 Census
« on: Tuesday 11 August 20 20:32 BST (UK)  »
Would appreciate any assistance in tracing John & Bridget Purcell on the 1881 Census, Bridget is my 2 x Great Grandmother, she married John Purcell in May 1876 At St. Mary's Church, Newcastle after the death of my 2 x Great Grandfather James Dooling in 1870.
John gave his age when married as 30 years and Bridget though born in 1839 gave her age as 34 years.
John & Bridget had 3 children Sarah Jane born 1874, Mary Ann born 1877 and Ann born 1879 all registered in Newcastle
I would also expect the two youngest children from her marriage to James to be with her in 1881.
James Doolin born 1867 Tynemouth and Joseph Dowlan born 1870 Tynemouth the family surname is problematic as it changes all the time.
In 1891 John, Bridget and the three girls are all residing in Byker.
Have tried various combinations in the surnames, age range etc. but just cannot seem to find them.
Thanks

(13049980) and died 17th September 1943 at Wigan and buried Ryhope Cemetery, Sunderland. Yorkshire (West Riding) / George White aka Frederick Mallett (1868 - 1919)
« on: Sunday 01 March 20 18:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can help in providing the burial details for George White aka Frederick Mallett. George/Frederick aged 51 was killed in a shipyard accident in Sunderland on the 5th September 1919.
The accident and inquest reported the name as George White, but then states there is doubt about his correct name which could be Frederick Mallett. The report then goes on to say he belonged to Sheffield and during the war he served in the Army as a regimental policeman.
The death is registered in the GRO index under both names.
I would be more than grateful for any information which could lead me to finding his final resting place.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / James Ferguson (1888 - 1903) Buried St. Albans
« on: Monday 13 January 20 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently researching the men & boys who lost their lives as a result of working in Sunderland shipyards. One of those boys was James Ferguson a 15 year old apprentice engineer from St. Albans who was tragically killed on the 25th February 1903. My research includes finding details of their final resting place as well as taking a photo of the headstone if one has been erected.

Thanks to St. Albans cemetery department I have the burial details but do not know if there is a headstone. I would be more than grateful if there is anyone who lives near to the cemetery can check to see if there is a headstone and would be able provide me with a photo.

James was buried on the 2nd March 1903 in Hatfield Road Cemetery, St. Albans. Section A - O24.
Grave no. 2133.

If anyone researching the family sees this I would be only too pleased to forward the accident and inquest details to them.

Thanks
