Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Mary Walker
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 13:34 GMT (UK)  »
I am unable to find a missing piece in the puzzle of Mary Walker and her husband Samuel Luff.  I have had help previously through Rootschat.
Samuel Luff b 1798 married Mary Walker b 1801 in 1818, Gedney, Lincolnshire.
Samuel's parents were Francis Luff and Susannah Sparrow. Mary's parents were George Walker and Mary Wright.
Samuel and Mary had three children:
Susannah Luff b 1819 - left England in 1837 with her husband William Hobbs and went to Australia
Ezekiel Luff b 1821 - appears on the 1841 census living with Kezia Midlenton?
William Luff b 1824 appears on the 1841 census living with the Gilbert family.
It seems strange that their sons were not living with Mary.
Samuel Luff went to America and started a new life - it it thought he left England about 1835? Several other siblings and their families went at the same time. Were Samuel and Mary living apart before he left - the story handed down from his American descendants is that Mary refused to go to America and so Samuel left her behind?
Samuel remarried in America in 1845 and had another 4 children.
What happened to Mary Walker?
A Mary Walker died in 1855 - Gedney but this Mary Walker appears on various family trees and I do not know if she belongs to my family.
Did Mary remarry? I hope someone can help me solve this mystery.

Somerset / DAVIS family - Yeovil
« on: Sunday 19 April 09 06:39 BST (UK)  »
Charles & Mary (nee Nicks) Davis migrated to Australia on the Hooghly in 1839.
Charles has several siblings - his parents being William & Elizabeth (nee Triptree) Davis.  Charles was born in 1815 Yeovil, Somerset, England.
I am trying to find ancestors for William & Elizabeth and if any more of their children migrated to Australia (possibly Charles or William).

Susannah Hobbs (nee Luff) arrived in Australia aboard the John Renwick with her husband William Hobbs.
Susannah died 09 Jan 1855 in South Australia - death place not recorded.  I cannot find where she is buried.  I was told she was buried at Myponga South Australia but cannot find any records to substantiate this.  The State Library could not help with the search.  Has anyone any suggestions?

Australia / Emigrants to South Australia
« on: Monday 27 October 08 11:06 GMT (UK)  »
William Davis b 1785 in Somerset had at least 8 siblings. One son Charles Davis b 1815 (my direct line) came to South Australia aboard the Hooghly in 1839 with his wife Mary. I am trying to find out if any of Charles siblings also came to Australia and if so where they lived.
John b 1806; William b 1807; George b 1817; Edmund b 1820;  Harriet b 1824 and Elizabeth b 1824.
I am not sure if these are all the siblings as there is an eight year gap between Charles and George.
Any help appreciated.  ;D

William Davis b 1785 Yeovilton, Somerset d 1850 m Elizabeth Triptree b 1787 d 1855 in Yeovil in 1805. One of their sons Charles Davis and his wife Mary nee NICKS arrived 1839-06-17 on Hooghly from London 19/02/1839.
I have 10 children for William & Elizabeth with birth dates ranging from 1806 to 1830 but I think I must be wrong as 3 of them are named John.  I have descendants for Charles but am wondering how many siblings he actually had and did any migrate to Australia.
Any help would be appreciated.
