Canada / Looking for Crome family when migrating from Australia to Canada
« on: Sunday 21 April 24 01:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My distant cousin Raymond Michael Crome b. 1929 Balmain, NSW Australia died in 2015 at Vancouver, Canada.   Raymond married Beverley Forster in 1954 at Newtown near Sydney NSW.

I am having trouble finding any shipping records of Raymond and his wife Beverley leaving Australia. The last census records show him at Bundeena, NSW around 1968.

Am wondering if anyone could assist me in this regard, arrivals in your country, as we have seen an obituary notice for Raymond Crome, indicating that he had been living in Vancouver for quite some years.

If we come up with the correct Raymond Michael Crome, would dearly love to know of any further information in regard to his life in Canada as well.    Thanking you in advance.

Regards Jan

Canada / Looking for Crome family when migrating from Australia to Canada
« on: Sunday 21 April 24 01:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My distant relation Raymond Michael Crome was born 4.8.1929 Balmain, Sydney NSW Aust and he married a lady named Beverley at Newtown, Sydney.   All NSW records show them living around Sydney up until 1968.

I am unable to find any shipping records for Raymond Crome travelling to Canada, but it seems that Raymond Michael Crome died on the 19th August, 2015 aged 86 years at Vancouver.

I have found an obituary notice for his death, indicating that he had been living in Canada for many years,  but just cannot really confirm that we have the right man in Ancestry records.

Would appreciate it, if someone may be able to assist me with arrivals in Canada please. Could be any time after 1968.    Regards Jan

South Africa / Finding deceased family members in South Africa
« on: Friday 19 April 24 00:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am researching distant relations who migrated from Australia to South Africa, my 2nd cousin Marian Briscoe married John Young Watson Lindberg in Sydney NSW Australia in 1890.  John Lindberg came from Scotland, the son of Captain Otto Magnus Lindberg a Shipmaster and native of Sweden.
After their marriage they moved to Scotland and subsequently to South Africa.

They had two children Linda Elaine Young Lindberg b.1892 Aust and Charles Lenard Lindberg in 1893 in Scotland.

I have a copy of Linda's death certificate in 1969 at Durban, South Africa, shows her husband as Charles Percival Day and they had two daughters Joan Sylvia Cockcroft and Elaine Marion Norman.
Linda married Charles Day on 4.12.1920 at Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa.

That is all the information I can find at this stage, wondering if anyone could assist me in regard to any further information on the family.

The Lindberg family had mining interests in South Africa, John Lindberg was an Electrical Engineer and Spirit Merchant.  He died in 1942 in Transvaal,South Africa and Marion died in 1947.

Thanking you

New Zealand / Finding Jane Donnelly & Captain Alexander Edwards 1877
« on: Thursday 11 April 24 23:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find any information in regard to our Ancestor, Jane Donnelly b. 1843, Balmain,Sydney NSW Aust. who married a Mariner, Captain Alexander Edmund Edwards in Wellington, NZ in 1877.   Jane was daughter of Timothy & Eliza Donnelly.

Have not been able to find any shipping records of Jane Donnelly travelling to New Zealand and whether she had any children from the marriage to Alexander Edwards.   We think that he died in New Zealand around 1900, as we later found Jane (now Edwards) living at Stanmore near Sydney, where she died in 1921.

Would love to know more about their lives in NZ, have found a little information regarding Captain Edwards being the Master of the ship "Patea" that wrecked, but not much more on Jane Edwards life in NZ.    There is much history on the Donnelly family here in Australia, her brother was the Legendary Boat Builder, her Father a Sailmaker from Hog Island in Ireland.

Looking forward to any assistance please.

Australia / Finding what happened to William Donnelly b. 1841 Sydney Australia
« on: Sunday 07 April 24 05:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find any information on William Donnelly b. 1841 in Sydney or Balmain.  His parents Simon and Eliza Donnelly had arrived from Hog Island, County Clare,  Ireland the previous year on board the "Premier".     Simon Donnelly was a Sailmaker at Balmain Sydney, he came to Australia registered as a Farm Labourer arriving with two children, Mary Donnelly b. 1937 and Joseph (legendary Boat Builder at Balmain) b. 1839.  They had several other children after their arrival, first child William whom we believe was also a Boat Builder at Balmain.     Cannot find any records of his death, there is one marriage to Henrietta Cummings, but we do not believe this is the correct William Donnelly, he is from another family.
There is much history on Joseph Donnelly his older brother who was a famous Boat Builder.
If anyone can assist with our William Donnelly, would really appreciate their help.
Best regards

Clare / Finding marriage and births of my Donnelly family
« on: Sunday 07 April 24 03:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My GGG Grandfather Simon Donnelly was a Pilot on the River Shannon near Kilrush, Ireland in the early 1800's, his wife was Winifred Dempsey or Dimpsay, have not been able to find their marriage as yet.

Their son Timothy Donnelly our GG Grandfather was born in 1805 on Hog Island and he married Eliza Scales (daughter of Joseph Scales, Gardener of Mt. Pleasant and his wife Mary Johnson).   Timothy and his wife Eliza had two children Mary Donnelly b. 1837 Hog Island and Joseph Donnelly b. 1839 on Hog Island.     They migrated to Australia arriving in 1840 to Sydney where they set up family live at Balmain.

Timothy Donnelly was a Sailmaker in Sydney Harbour and his son Joseph Donnelly became a very famous boat builder.   There is much history on his boat building here in Sydney.

If there is anyone who has access to other information on the Donnelly or Scales family in Ireland, to ascertain whether there were other children born to Simon Donnelly and his wife Winifred Dempsey (Dimpsay) their dates of marriage and deaths, would really appreciate that.

Thanking you in advance, best regards Jan

South Africa / Finding whereabouts of Great Uncle Albert Leonard New
« on: Wednesday 29 November 23 23:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find what happened to my relation Albert Leonard New b. 1883 Newbury Berkshire England, he was son of Ellen New.   He was raised by his Grandparents John & Ellen New, married around 1904 to Fanny Elizabeth Townsend Wheeler.  She died in 1914 at Wallingford, Berkshire, they previously had one child Roy Leslie Townsend New.

1911 Census Albert Leonard New was shown as living with his Aunt & Uncle John & Fanny New and family, they then migrated to Australia later in 1911.   No further information can be found on Albert Leonard New.   His wife died in 1914, but she had been in this Mental facility for a couple of years prior to her death.

Have just found a hint on Ancestry suggesting that A.L. New b. about 1882 arrived Cape Town South Africa on board the "Llanstephan Castle".  He departed from Southampton on the 30th September, 1919.   However looking at the shipping records attached, I just cannot find his name thereon.

Wonder if there is anyone who could assist me to ascertain the correct information, to enable me to find out what happened to our Great Uncle.

Thanking you.   Jan

Australia / Trying to find Thomas Silvester coming to Australia
« on: Saturday 05 August 23 23:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've been researching William John Batson b. 1808 Norwich England, who was transported to Australia 1830.  He married Elizabeth Silvester in 1843 who was daughter of Thomas Silvester, we think a Convict, still trying to find when he arrived in Australia, as there seems to be different spellings for Silvester and Sylvester.     Elizabeth is shown in marriage application documents as being a Native of the Colony, so definitely born here in Australia.

Wonder if there is anyone who can assist me to find the correct Father of Elizabeth please, various information appears on Ancestry, some maybe showing her Father arrived on the "Brothers" in the Third Fleet, but not totally sure that is correct.

Thanks in advance.    Jan

Berkshire / Finding Elizabeth New after 1911 Census in Newbury
« on: Monday 10 July 23 05:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if someone could assist me please, my Great Aunt Elizabeth New was born 1870 at Newbury, she lived with family members, including her brother-in-law after her sister Mary Jane New died to assist with the care of their children.  By 1911 Census, aged 41 years, I found her living with her Mother Ellen New at Kings Almshouses at Newbury.   After that, really cannot identify if she married then, no further findings for her.   There was one marriage to a gentleman by Newport, but that doesn't seem to connect.   She was getting too old to have any children, most likely.

Any ideas would be most grateful, we have found an Elizabeth New who married Ernest J. Brown in Reading Berkshire, but the birth dates do not connect.

I am hoping someone can help me please.
