Scotland / Buchanan/Whannell Family
« on: Friday 24 July 20 16:51 BST (UK)  »
I have acquired some cutlery that has a family crest on it and have found out that it belongs to the Whannell family who seem to originate in Scotland. Possibly Ayrshire.
I am now curious to know more about this family and wondered if anybody could help.
According to Scotland's People, the family coat of arms seems to have been granted in 1778 to a Peter Whannell (alias Buchanan).
I think some of the family eventually moved down to London but would be interested to know about their origins presuming that they must have had a high enough status to be able to afford cutlery with their coat of arms engraved onto it!
Thank you.  :)

Huntingdonshire / Huntingdonshire Marriage Indexes
« on: Monday 20 January 20 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
Many years ago I bought the Huntingdonshire Marriage Index from the Huntingdonshire FHS which now seems to have closed down.

Does anybody know if it's still possible to get the marriage index (presumably on microfiche) that covers the years 1755 - 1837?

Other Countries / Marriage in Christ Church, Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
« on: Friday 20 December 19 14:40 GMT (UK)  »
Does anybody know where I might find a copy of a marriage certificate for a marriage that took place in early 1877 at the given location?

It was between a William Osmotherly and a Maria Walby.

Thank you.  :)

Essex / Stephen Outing
« on: Saturday 09 September 17 13:58 BST (UK)  »
A Stephen Outing was baptised in Blackmore on 13th September 1763. His parents are Stephen and Jane Outing.

I am now trying to find the marriage of this Stephen and Jane Outing (so far without success  :-\) and consequently a pointer to any other children they may have had. I'd be grateful if anybody could help me.

Glamorganshire / Llangynwyd Parish Registers
« on: Wednesday 21 September 16 09:19 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a baptism that allegedly took place in the parish of Llangynwyd in 1723. If anybody has access to the baptism registers, I'd be very grateful if you could let me know of any boys with the christian name of Evan listed on them.

Many thanks.  :)

Somerset / George Dosson
« on: Sunday 10 August 14 19:10 BST (UK)  »
I have just been looking through the death duty registers and have come across an entry in 1827 for a George Dosson (often picked up as Dofson) whose executors were in Beckington, Somerset.
This is a bit of a mystery to me as I'm not aware of a George Dosson on my tree who died in 1827 and wondered if anybody could help with a burial entry or age?

Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks.  :D

Essex / SEAX Update
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 17:46 GMT (UK)  »
Just to let everyone know that I had my monthly e-mail from SEAX today, and it says they've added loads more parish registers to the on-line collection. These include; Leyton, Chingford and Walthamstow, plus a lot of the "newer" parishes.
So, loads more potential information to sift through!

Worcestershire Lookup Requests / Baptism Lookup in Overbury
« on: Sunday 02 February 14 18:14 GMT (UK)  »
A William Walby has given his place of birth on the 1851 Census as Overbury in Worcestershire and from his age, the event should have taken place in about 1772/3.

If anybody has access to the Overbury parish registers, I'd be very interested to know who William's parents were.

Many Thanks!

Essex / First Marriage of Daniel Thorogood/Thurgood
« on: Thursday 19 December 13 17:59 GMT (UK)  »
An ancestor of mine got married to a Jane Archer in 1819 in Little Hallingbury, Essex. His status was given as a widower.

I'm fairly convinced that his first wife was also called Jane as there's a burial in Little Hallingbury in September 1816 for a 31 year old Jane Thorogood. A Mary Anne Thorogood was baptized to them in June 1816.

The problem I'm having is finding Daniel's first marriage. It must have taken place between 1802 (ish) to 1816.

There's always the chance that it took place in Hertfordshire being as Little Hallingbury is so near the border, but hopefully not.

If anybody can spot anything I'd be very grateful to hear from them.
