Essex / Rose White Colbourn 1911 Census
« on: Tuesday 01 January 13 23:32 GMT (UK)  »
My Paternal Great Aunt, Rose White Colbourn, appears in the 1901 Census aged 12. Her Death is recorded in 1977 aged 88. However there seems to be no sign of her in the 1911 Census. Whilst I realize that some aspects of 1911 Census are incomplete, entries for London and Essex should be better than other areas. 1901 Census shows her in Walpole Road, West Ham and death in 1977 shows her in Runwell Hospital.
Any help with 1911 Census gratefully received. Why would Rose be unaccounted for?

Essex / Runwell Hospital
« on: Saturday 23 August 08 12:46 BST (UK)  »
Looking for ideas relating to patient admission records for Runwell Hospital, Wickford. My great aunt was a patient and death certificate dated 6-2-1977 shows inquest details and accidental death.
Would admission records be held at Essex Record Office, National Archive or the Wellcome Institute?
I gather that Runwell is due for closure in 2008.

« on: Friday 21 December 07 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Tobias Colbourn b. 1857 Stepney was living in West Street Godmanchester by 1881 when he married  Bertha Rebecca King also living West Street.

There are 4 known children but, after the death of Tobias in 1893 aged 36, there seem to be 2 more children --Frank William b. 1897 and Edith Maud b. 1900.

Can anyone shed light on 1901 census details of these two??

All help most welcome. :-\

I'm Looking for possible children of TOBIAS COLBOURN b. 1857 in Stepney. By 1881 census, he was in Godmanchester, Hunts where he married Bertha R. King that year. They had 4 known children -- Mabel Helen, Florence Hilda, Arthur Percy and Ethel Mary.

TOBIAS died in 1893 (Free BMD) but 2 other children -- Frank William Colbourn b. 1897 and Edith Maud Colbourn  b. 1900 are listed in 1901 census probably living with their apparently widowed mother Bertha.

But who was their father?
Any ideas on 1901 listings for these 2 'posthumous offspring' gratefully received. ??? ???

« on: Monday 26 November 07 22:46 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have information about Dudbrook Hostel in Brentwood? I have a great uncle who was living there at the time of his death in 1960. I believe there was some accomodation built after the War in Brentwood to house people from East and West Ham. Was Dudbrook connected with this scheme?

« on: Sunday 25 November 07 23:39 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for information about Harriet Brown Heard b. Northam in1826 and married William Colbourn 30th Sept 1845. Also her father William Heard, Tobias Brown Heard b.1830 also in Northam probably brother of Harriet. By 1856 Tobias was at The Elder Tree Pub in Poplar. I am particularly interested in the Devon 'Heard' connections. Several descendants have 'Heard' as a middle name - Clara Heard Colbourn and Tobias Heard Colbourn. What were the principal occupations in Northam in mid 19th century?
