Argyllshire / 'LUIE' or 'Craig' Middle names......Any Clues?
« on: Sunday 10 November 19 15:18 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking at some family middle names as clues to find the birth family of my Grandad, David Campbell Ferguson.  One of his daughters, Christina, was given 'Luie' as her middle name as on her birth record from CRAIGNISH in 1922.  His other daughter, had the middle name 'Craig'.  I assume these were significant family names although there are no connections within the family that I know of......Luie is particularly interesting as I feel that it must have been pretty unusual in the area at the time.
Any clues, however tenuous, will be very welcome!!
Thanks,
Jan

Argyllshire / Ferguson - Glenaray
« on: Saturday 09 November 19 09:09 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for help in tracing the family of David Campbell Ferguson (my Grandad) who recorded Glenaray as his usual residence on his marriage cert in 1923.  His parents were recorded as Duncan and Catherine Ferguson and a witness at the wedding was Donald Ferguson, Kilfinan.
I've found a couple of potential families for him but nothing concrete.  The earliest record I can find for David is at Kilmartin in 1891 (I Think) but who his parents/family are remains a mystery.
Would love to hear from other Inveraray Fergusons who have clues!
Thanks,
Jan

Buteshire / Ferguson/Craig Connections
« on: Saturday 16 August 14 10:44 BST (UK)  »
Trying to find the birth of my Grandfather in Rothesay. He was later known as David Ferguson.
All David Fergusons born around the time in Bute have drawn blanks.
I'm currently looking at twins David and James Craig born 1881, Rothesay. I suspect David may be my Grandfather (Later, David Ferguson) My theory is that he was 'adopted' but there appears to be no record of adoptions.  I can't find the twins together after their birth.  I see James possibly adopted by Mary and Colin McPhail in the 1891 Census.  (Mary's maiden name was Craig so an aunt, maybe?)
The name 'Craig' crops up later in my Grandfather's first daughter's name in 1920 (Isobel Craig McInnes) which suggests a connection and my Grandfather always claimed to be born in Rothesay, Buteshire and would often visit 'family' and friends there in later life.
I'm looking for a CRAIG family connection to Duncan and Catherine Ferguson in the Lochgiphead/Kilmartin area at that time which might convince me that this is my Grandfather.
The earliest link to him as David Ferguson is 1891 census aged 9 at Ford, Kilmartin.
Any suggestions or search ideas will be very welcome.  Thanks!

Help appreciated!
Is Helensburgh listed in census records on Scotlands People?  I had trouble finding it.  Should it be listed in Dunbarton?

Thanks!

Dunbartonshire / David Campbell Ferguson
« on: Friday 31 July 09 22:16 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find my grandfather David Campbell Ferguson who was possibly born in Helensburgh Dunbartonshire, around 1883 to 1886.  His parents were probably Duncan and Catherine Ferguson, (ms campbell)
My main thread is to trace Catherine's family in the hope of solving the mystery of a silver Gents fob watch which is inscribed 'presented to Colin Campbell in Greenock on15th April 1853'  but first I feel I need to find my Grandfather.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks

Argyllshire / David Ferguson
« on: Thursday 15 November 07 20:53 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to trace David Ferguson who was born around 1886 (ish)  possibly in Buteshire.  Most of his early life I am lead to believe, however he lived in Argyllshire.  He was married in Oban in 1923 to Mary ann McInnes but I can't seem to trace him even from his parents names on the marriage cert.  Can anyone else help?  Many thanks!

Renfrewshire / Colin Campbell
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 10:09 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently been given a family 'heirloom' - a gents silver fobwatch which has been engraved -
to "Mr Colin Campbell  from a few friends as a token of their esteem, Greenock April 1853"
I understand that the Campbell side of my family came from Greenock.  The furthest back I have is Catherine Campbell who would have been born around 1860 (ish)! but no other details..........
Any leads?

Thankyou!

Buteshire / Birth of David Campbell Ferguson
« on: Sunday 28 October 07 09:58 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the birth or baptism record for my grandfather, David Campbell Ferguson.  The details I have are that he was born (or from) Buteshire, between 1884 - 1888.  His parents are Duncan (but possibly John) Ferguson and Catherine (nee Campbell).  Later in life he lived in Argyllshire at Kilmartin and also Craignish.

Thanks for any help!
