Other Countries / James Hawkins OWEN 1798-1827
« on: Saturday 06 July 13 12:29 BST (UK)  »
Looking for burial record of James Hawkins OWEN died Demerara 18 April 1827 of yellow fever  He may be with his parents on Island of Bartholomew: there is a mention there on record he died Demerara - so not sure; but feel highly unlikely he was shipped across the waters for burial.  He was the son of Richard b1754 and Catherine both buried Bartholomew.  Many thanks for your time.   Frank.

Seeking historical interest of Mr & Mrs Richard Owen both buried West Indies.  Prosperous West Indies Merchant. Born 5 Dec 1754 Cheapside, City of London.  Wife Catherine from Lancaster uk. I have the following from a book "Time honoured Lancaster"
Another well-known grave tells us that " Richard Owen died at the
Island of Bartholomew, in the West Indies, October 14th, 1809,
aged 53 ; his wife Catherine "Kitty' dying November 24th 1838, aged 78.
There is also a James Hawkins Owen commemorated, who died at
Demerara, April 18th, 1827, at the early age of 29. I need not say
whose parents and brother repose here, parents and brother of an
illustrious man who still survives at the time of writing.  Taken from e-book  Time-honoured Lancaster ... Historic notes on the ancient borough of Lancaster

I would appreciate a photo of this cemetery and grave if recognisable and other historical  points of interest.  Please use Personal Message for email exchange if you so wish.   Thank you Frank.  (Oxford uk )
