Armed Forces / Edmund Vimpany 1780-1836
« on: Friday 22 June 18 20:14 BST (UK)  »

I am looking for an ancestor who was born around 1780 supposedly in Gloucestershire.   He married in 1808 in Brighton,  then moved to London where he had a family. He died in Gloucester in 1836. It has been suggested that he may have been in Brighton because he was in the military.

I have been researching this family for many years and it is littered with ‘Edmunds’. I have managed the trace them all except this one.  Is there any way I can find out if he was in the military?

Gloucestershire / Parish Records - I am looking for Edmund Vimpany
« on: Tuesday 28 July 15 17:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for the possible baptism of an ancestor in Gloucester c. 1780.

I see the parish records on Ancestry for St Mary de Lode are 1675 -1799
Then 1784 -1812 (these seem to be burials only)

Does anybody know if these records are just missing from Ancestry or if they are missing from the Record Office.

Would there be any Bishops Transcripts for that period?

Technical Help / Windows XP - Windows 7
« on: Thursday 23 October 14 17:52 BST (UK)  »
When I had Windows XP it had a ‘draw’ facility and I was able to draw a table plan (for setting up an exhibition in a hall).  It was very flexible and I could move (drag) the tables wherever I wanted them.

I cannot find this  facility on Windows 7 - only ‘paint’ which doesn’t have the same options.  If  I want to move or change something the only way seems to be to erase it and start again.

Am I missing something?

Any advice welcome.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Edmund Greening, Barnwood
« on: Monday 05 August 13 12:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

FamilySearch site is showing a baptism for Edmund Greening at Barnwood Gloucestershire on 17th May, 1778, with mother Ann Greening.

May I request a look-up in the parish register on the off-chance that there may be more detail given.

Australia / Elizabeth COOPER - what happened to her?
« on: Thursday 11 April 13 17:53 BST (UK)  »

Elizabeth Vimpany was baptised in Gloucester in 1822.  I have found her with her mother in the 1841 census living in Westminster, London.

In 1844 she married George Cooper.  George died in 1853 and on 24th May 1854 Elizabeth set sail on the Kingston and arrived in Hobart Tasmania on 26th August.  On the shipping documents, which I have, she is travelling under her maiden name but there is a note saying her married name is Cooper and that she is going to her brother Edmund who lives at 68 Melville Street and that she is a milliner.

She would not have seen her brother for at least 20 years because he arrived in Tasmania sometime in the early 1830s, apparently as a free settler.

I would be grateful for an advice on how I can find out what happened to Elizabeth.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Marriage look up please
« on: Sunday 13 January 13 13:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have found a marriage in Arlingham on 25th September 1775 between Mary Vimpany and John Wilks.  May I request a look up to see if it shows John’s occupation and where he came from.

In 1800, Mary is mentioned in her father’s will as “my daughter Mary wife of John Wilkes of Ashton in said county”.  If John came from Ashton originally, where is/was it because I am having trouble finding any children for this couple.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Looking for Tom Norris in 1901
« on: Wednesday 28 November 12 13:01 GMT (UK)  »

Tom was born in 1888 in Chard Somerset
I have him with his family in the 1891 census - RG12/1893/72 p.40 and I have found him in the 1911 lodging with my g.grandparents in Hampshire.

Family stories say that he went to a Cathedral school and was a chorister but I can't find him anywhere.

Can anybody help me find him please.
