Lancashire / Williams family 1911 census Sutton Oak
« on: Thursday 24 May 18 16:34 BST (UK)  »
The Williams family were living at 50 Joseph St, Sutton Oak, St Helen's Lancashire in the 1911 census, namely William, his wife Sarah and daughters Doris and Myfanwy. Sarah's widowed mother Mary Thomas was also living with them.
Sarah was born in Coedpoeth, Denbighshire in 1877/1878. I don't seem to be able to find out what happened to any of them after 1911.
Does anyone know if they stayed in Sutton Oak? they moved there circa 1908, as Doris was born in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1907 and Myfanwy in St Helens in 1909.
Hope someone can help, Nellie

Dunbartonshire / Sarah LYNCH - body in Forth and Clyde canal.
« on: Sunday 04 September 11 14:15 BST (UK)  »
I have just found the death entry for Sarah Lynch who died 4 Mar 1915. I have had difficulty deciphering it but I think it says "Fall in Forth and Clyde Canal near to Dalmuir Bridge". The cause of death is left blank presumably while investigations took place. On the margin of the entry it directs you to the RCE  which I believe is record of corrected entry. Does anyone know whether you can look at RCEs online or could anyone check this entry for me? I don't know much about Scottish records other than what I have found on Scotland's People. Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks Nellie

Hertfordshire / Ellen AMBROSE 1830-1870
« on: Thursday 14 October 10 11:17 BST (UK)  »
Ellen was born in Great Gaddesden c1830 and died in the area in 1870. Could anyone tell me whether she died in an accident, murder or  suicide as there is some mystery about her which the family would not talk about? It could be quite simply the fact that she had at least 2 illegitimate daughters. I wondered if there were any press reports or obituaries which could give me more information about her life and death. All I know is she was a Straw Plaiter and her parents were William Ambrose and Harriet Knowles. Thanks N

Denbighshire / Catherine Thomas born cMar 1881
« on: Tuesday 11 May 10 12:12 BST (UK)  »
HI,I am researching Catherine Thomas who was born in Coedpoeth, Denbighshire in Mar 1881. I have been unable to find a marriage or death record that I can confidently say is Catherine. She was in Coedpoeth with her family in 1891 but her parents Henry and Mary Thomas were living in Festiniog in 1901 on their own. Her sister Sarah married in Festiniog in 1903 before moving to St Helen's. Brother William was in Cumberland and sister Mary was in Birkenhead  in 1901. Catherine seems to have disappeared. Can anyone help me trace her?  Thanks in anticipation NellieT

Cumberland / William and Frances Thomas Whitehaven after 1901
« on: Saturday 08 May 10 15:30 BST (UK)  »
My 2xgreat uncle William Thomas was living in Flimby in 1891 and also in 1896 when he married Frances Mary Sanders in Keswick. They were both living at 69 Church St, Whitehaven in 1901. After that date I have been unable to find any trace of them. William was born in 1866 in North Wales. With such a common name it is not easy to find a death record for him. The 1911 census has proved fruitless - either he died before then or left England and Wales. ( or the census record could be mistranscribed).
Do these names mean anything to anyone? Did they have any children? Love to hear from anyone who could tie up these loose ends for me. NellieT

Family History Beginners Board / 1911 Wakefield Prison
« on: Monday 01 March 10 16:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I found a relative in Wakefield Prison in the 1911 census. Are there any prison records online or does anyone do any prison record look-ups? I cannot get to the Wakefield archives as I live too far away. NellieT

Dorset / TRIPACK/TRIBICK and variants
« on: Wednesday 16 December 09 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
I have spent the last few weeks searching all available online sources for Sarah Tripack /Tribick/Trebick/Triphook and have reached a dead end. She was recorded in the Ellingham parish records as the mother of James Tripack who was baptised in May 1811.  I have assumed that she was born Sarah Tripack as no father was given. As there are no other variations of this name in Ellingham she could have come from anywhere and clearly did not remain there to marry or die.
I have also considered that she may have been widowed or estranged in 1811 but have absolutely no leads. She could have been any age between say 14 and 50.
James married in Dorset but lived the whole of his married life in Bransgore, Hampshire.
Sarah must have married or died somewhere but I have no clue where!
If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful as I have finally run out of ideas on this one. Thanks, NellieT

James and his wife named several children after members of his wife's family with the exception of Frederick, Thomas , Gregory, Arthur and William. I have considered Thomas and Gregory as possible surnames of James' family as well as christian names.
If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful as I have finally run out of ideas on this one. Thanks, NellieT
