World War Two / Is this cap badge American, Canadian or British?
« on: Monday 14 January 19 17:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

I am hoping that someone can tell me how I can find out if this cap badge is American, Canadian or British? The man in the photograph was born in Scotland in 1904 and emigrated to Canada in 1923. He served in the Merchant Navy in World War II.

Many thanks for any help or advice.

Kind regards

Diana

Ps. Sorry attachment is huge. If anyone knows how to reduce it please let me know.

Hi Everyone
Would someone be able to tell me who I should contact re the lair records for Catrine Churchyard? I have a picture of a gravestone from there which has two names I can't seem to find anything about. I think they will have died as infants but can't find them in the OPRS.

Many thanks

Hi

Please could someone tell me where I could find Electoral rolls online for 1912 onwards in order to help track some of my family down in Great Crosby, West Derby.

I don't seem to be able to find them on Ancestry or Findmypast for this area but maybe I am wrong.

Many thanks

Hi Everyone

I am looking for the graves of a David Sullivan (1960) and Barbara Sullivan(1970) in Lennoxtown Cemetery. Who would I contact to find out exactly where they are buried? Is it Dunbartonshire Council?

I do not know the area so if some kind person could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Kind regards

Fermanagh / Irish Court records
« on: Friday 08 January 10 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I have a relative who was involved in a court case in the 1950's in Beleek in Northern Ireland. Where should I look or who should I contact to find out about the case? Is this a case for a professional researcher to do as I don't think I shall get to Ireland for some time?

The incident happened at a place called Beleek near the border to South Ireland. My great uncle had an argument with the manager of the local hydro electric power station. According to the family there was a big court case about it. I have looked online at the National Library of Ireland and PRONI have also tried to find it for me but to no avail. Is there a local newspaper that might have run an article on the incident and who do I contact?

If anyone can help me or tell me where to look for information I would be really grateful.

many thanks

Diana

Ireland / Where to look for an Irish court case details
« on: Saturday 25 July 09 21:05 BST (UK)  »
Please could someone point me in the right direction of who to contact about a court case in Southern Ireland in about 1950?

I have just been told by my relative about a case between an ancestor of mine who took another person to court over trespassing on a piece of land. I know that in Scotland sometimes you can find details of court cases in the National Archives of Scotland but I have no idea what the Irish system is.

Many thanks

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Collins family look up
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 08:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi

(I'm sorry I have just reread the notes on how to ask for a look up - I am really looking for any look up after 1901 to help me find out when my COLLINS family left London. Hope this is possible?)

Could I please have some help with my COLLINS family? They are on the 1901 census living at 19 Arden Street, Battersea,Wandsworth beside a CORCORAN couple. I am looking for a Timothy & Phyllis COLLINS and their children Timothy J, Mary, Phyllis and possibly Kitty. Phyllis's aunt and uncle are Eliza and Patrick CORCORAN.

I am not sure if you will find anything but I am trying to trace how long they stayed there after 1901 before returning to Ireland. This my BIG brick wall as I know COLLINS is a very common name. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Dumfriesshire / Commercial/County Hotel, Dumfries
« on: Sunday 06 January 08 22:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone

I am new to this forum but hope someone can help me with this query.

I am looking for any information on the Commercial Hotel, Dumfries which was owned by a Maxwell Copland in the 1901 Census My great grandmother Elizabeth Copland (nee McGeorge) died there in 1909. My uncle says it was called the County Hotel but on the death certificate it is  the Commercial Hotel.

Any information would be gratefully received
