Looking for related family.

The head of this family worked for several Gaols in Victoria as Turnkey and Governor. His descendants worked as a teacher in Cobram, a newspaper manager in Cobram, and farmer? in Corryong.

Would love to hear from related families either on this board or privately.

Kent / Samuel Walker & Eliza Walker; Kent - Post 1851
« on: Tuesday 09 December 08 10:48 GMT (UK)  »
After many years searching, I'm still completely flustered regarding the whereabout of Samuel Walker, b. about 1803, Canterbury and his second wife, Eliza after 1851.

Samuel was formerly the Governor of Abingdon, Berks prison. In 1851, he and Eliza are in Greenwich:

1851 England Census, Kent, Greenwich, Greenwich West, District 11
HO 107/1586
Ashburnham Grove
Walker, Samuel, Head of household, Married, age 45, Annuitant born Kent, Canterbury
Eliza, Wife, Married, age 40, Annuitant born Oxford
William, Son, Unmarried, age 17, Apprentice born Berkshire, Abingdon
Charles G., Son, Unmarried, age 11, Scholar at home, born Berks, Abingdon
Eliza G., Daughter, Unmarried, age 6, Scholar at home, born Berks, Abingdon
Thompson, Charles G., Visitor, Unmarried, age 30, Tailor born Oxford

I've been through Ancestry 100+ times, trying every conceivable name option and haven't found a thing past 1851. They've vanished, including Eliza's brother Charles G. Thompson.

It sounds unreasonable that they may have all died before the 1861 census, and there are no clear BMD records without spending a small fortune on certificates.

Samuel born about 1803-4 Canterbury
Eliza born 1809 Oxford

My gut instinct tells me that they left England, but I can't prove that either.

Might anyone have suggestions about further searching? Thank you in advance for your replies...

Just an idea, and I don't know how difficult this might be to implement since I have no background in writing computer programs.

It would be wonderful if when we look at our surname interests, that we had the option to see the results in a "table" format, each area separated in boxes. Results able to be ordered by surname and/or county.

It's difficult to scan the entries as they are for possible matches, especially when the surname is a very common one.

Thank you for your consideration.  :)

Looking for the baptism/parents of Ella Allin b. abt. 1810 at High Wycombe, Iffley, Oxfordshire. I suspect that her father might be Richard Allin, widowed farmer of Littlemore in the 1851 census.

Also looking for the marriage of the same Ella Allin in 1836 to William Thompson at Iffley. The exact parish unknown, it may be Littlemore or Iffley.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Staffordshire / Lichfield Maltings
« on: Friday 06 June 08 07:45 BST (UK)  »
I'm seeking information on the Lichfield Maltings that were closed in the last decade or so. Was this Malting an independent company, or did they produce for a large brewing organization? Is this the same Malting that was converted into residential dwellings in recent years?

A relative, Henry O. Evans retired from there as Maltster before his death about 6 years back.

If anyone worked there and would like to share background on the firm, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your help.  :)

Oxfordshire / St. Aldate's Monumental Inscriptions (MI's)
« on: Sunday 09 March 08 19:41 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any MI's available for St. Aldate's?

The OFHS doesn't show any fiche or CD's, but their Interactive Map shows 313 entries for (St. Aldate's).

Might anyone know where these 313 entries may be found?

Berkshire Completed Look ups / WALKER family, Abingdon St. Helen's
« on: Sunday 27 January 08 19:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping to find a kind soul that might be able to look up the baptisms of some children at Abingdon St. Helen's or Abingdon Prison Chapel(?)

Samuel WALKER, born Canterbury was the Governor of Abingdon County Prison in 1841. His wife, Eliza the Matron. I believe Eliza may be Eliza Thompson, b. 1809 at St. Aldate, Oxford. Perhaps one of the children's baptisms may reveal her family surname.

WALKER, Caroline Sarah b. abt. 1826
WALKER, William Samuel b. abt.  1834
WALKER, Henry Edward b. abt.  1836  d. 1841
WALKER, Samuel George b. registered in 1842 d. 1840
WALKER, Charles George b. 1839
WALKER, Eliza Georgiana b. 1844

Samuel Walker was a marriage witness at several of the Thompson family marriages at Oxford St. Clement in the 1830s - 1840s. Charles George Thompson, my Eliza's brother, is with Samuel & Eliza Walker on the 1851 census in Greenwich. I can't find a marriage for Samuel & Eliza at either St. Aldate's or St. Clement's where her family lived.
