Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Where was Thomas PINCHES born?
« on: Saturday 13 July 13 19:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Although consistently stating he was born in Herefordshire, Thomas PINCHES gave a different town of birth on the three census listed below. I can’t find any of the places.
Could someone with local knowledge please suggest where he was born so that I can find him on earlier census.

1911 census – in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, age 66. Born in Dilton, Herefordshire.
1901 census – in Shifnal, Shropshire, age 54. Born in Dillon, Herefordshire.
1891 census - in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, age 44. Born in Chander, Herefordshire (my own transcript, from the fiche)

Thanks
Gwynne

Shropshire / WELLINGS family in Bridgnorth
« on: Monday 04 December 06 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Lyn,

who posted this in error in another thread;

Hi
I'm new on this website so I am a bit of an amateur so I hope I have the right
place. I am interested in any information on the Wellings family from Bridgnorth
Shropshire.
If you could help I would appreciate it.
Thank you and have a lovely Christmas.

Lyn from Australia

The name WELLINGS is frequently mentioned in my various Bridgnorth records. Is there a specific person or family you are interested in?

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Bridgnorth - News and Events between 1852 and 1900
« on: Saturday 25 November 06 16:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I have copies of my new book for sale.

Bridgnorth - News and Events between 1852 and 1900*

A chronological list of approx. 2,800 events found in the local newspaper the Bridgnorth Journal in Shropshire. A fascinating glimpse back in time.
Published and printed by me in Nov 2006, containing 124 pages.

Plus unique information for the family history researcher. Approx. 1,500 records of births, marriages and deaths of Bridgnorth people including those in South Africa, Peru, India, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

Plus the names of many people mentioned in various Inquests, Sales, Bankruptcies and Affiliation Orders. Many Inquests and Court cases were reported in great detail.
Records those who wrote home from the Crimean and Boer wars. Their letters were frequently printed in the newspaper.

* Isolated issues were not available. Also the whole period from 1869 to 1887.

For further details or to purchase a copy, please either;

Visit my web site at http://www.chadwickg.freeserve.co.uk/booksales.htm
or buy it on eBay. Search using the word Bridgnorth.

Thanks,

Armed Forces / Photos of Richard M Chadwick, 1/12th L.N. Lancs.
« on: Sunday 03 September 06 11:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi List,

I would appreciate knowing if these photographs could add to my knowledge of my grandfather.

Born 1882 in Lancashire. In 1919 a newspaper article referred to him as C.S.M (Company Sergeant Major) R.M. Chadwick, 1/12th L.N. Lancs. His obituary in 1953 stated that during the 1914-1918 war he was a Sergeant Major.

When and where could the group photo have been taken please. Most seem to be Sergeants but I can't see any stripes on Richard. (First left in the middle row)

The other photograph is dated 1915.

Larger versions of the photographs are on my web site;

Many thanks,
Gwynne

Shropshire / Camera Permit needed at Shropshire Archives
« on: Monday 12 June 06 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi Listers,

A note of caution to those intending to take their camera for a visit to Shropshire Archives at Shrewsbury.

I understand that with effect from 6th June 2006, people will need a permit before being allowed to use their own camera, digital or otherwise.

The permit, issued by Shropshire Archives, will cost £5.00 per day or £30.00 per annum.

Apparently such a charge is quite common in other similar facilities.

Hi,

I've been requested to help a researcher locate the house of his great grandmother. Having failed to find it in Cheshire or Shropshire, Lancashire is my last hope.

The substantial black & white timber framed building was featured in a painting by H.A. Whittle dated 1856.

Please look at the house and the information found so far, on this web page;

http://grc2.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/house_picture.html

A major art dealer, who has sold paintings by the same artist, says that the picture "looks similar to other 19th century views of The Old Packet House, Worsley, Near Manchester, but there were several other half timbered buildings which were much painted by artists at this period"

Many thanks for looking.

Cheshire / Can you identify this house please?
« on: Friday 05 May 06 14:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been requested to help a researcher locate the house of his great
grandmother. The house may have been anywhere, although Cheshire or Shropshire have been suggested.

The substantial black & white timber framed building was featured in a
painting by H.A. Whittle dated 1856.

Please look at the house and information found so far, on this web page;

I've contacted Bonham's, the art dealers, who have sold paintings by the same artist. Hopefully they may provide some clue.

Many thanks for looking.

Shropshire / Can you identify this house please?
« on: Wednesday 26 April 06 22:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've been requested to help a researcher locate the house of his great grandmother.

There may be a family connection to Cold Weston or Monkhopton, both in
Shropshire, but in reality the house may have been anywhere.

The substantial black & white timber framed building was featured in a
painting by H.A. Whittle dated 1856. Nothing about the artist has been found.

Please look at the painting of the house on this web page;

http://grc2.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/house_picture.html

Thanks for looking.
