Kent / Looking for parents of Maria Weeks & sibling Sarah
« on: Tuesday 17 March 15 10:09 GMT (UK)  »
Maria Weeks married Robert Cromp in 1801. She was married by license in London. The license identifies her as 19 years old, birth c1782, and names her mother as Peninnah, a widow. Looking at the name it is likely that this has been mistranscribed. Her history all relates the area of Kent around Frinstead and Charing Kent. There are no clues to her parentage on her 1st or 2nd marriage information. I have copies of both these parish records.

Her 2nd husbands will cites his sister in law Sarah Day of Egerton Kent as an executrix. A marriage between a Sarah Weeks and David Day took place in Egerton in 1799. A witness to this marriage is Maria Weeks. Again there is no clue to her parentage on the marriage record.

Maria's gravestone indicates she died in 1827 in her 45th year, which again indicates a birth in 1781/2.

From census returns for Sarah, the indication is that she was born c1799 in Egerton.

I have exhausted familysearch and now cannot differentiate from one Weeks family to another. Is anyone able to help with this. Many thanks

Kent / PYE, Bredgar
« on: Sunday 23 February 14 11:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Please can anyone help with parish records for Bredgar in Kent.

I  am descended from Thomas Pye (1) of Newlands Farm Charing Kent 1787-1833. I have details for him and his family and am now looking at the next generation of his Ancestors. In his will he cites his brother, executor as Henry

I believe his parents were Thomas Pye (2) 1753-1824 and Jane nee Hudson of Bredgar who I believe may have lived at Butters Manor. They had 10 or 11 children including a Thomas and Henry.

Now I am looking for Thomas Pye (2) parentage.  A Bredgar baptism record for a Thomas Pye  in 1853 has parents named Thomas Pye (3) and Susan (Susannah). Whilst Ancestry trees indicate Admiral Sir Thomas PYE (4) 1713  (Farringdon Bucks or Berks) -1785 (London), however I am yet to be confident in suggesting this is so.

From a preliminary search of TP (4),  peerage records indicate one legitimate daughter, but biographies suggest he had illegitimate children with his long time mistress, so he may have recognised them. From the will of Thomas Pye (1) there certainly was money in the family.

But the thing that is niggling at me is that I have found on FindMyPast a baptism record for a Thomas Pye (5) baptised in 1699 but FindMyPast does not indicate any further Pye records for this parish.

So my query is, is there anybody able to help me with any further records of any Pye families in Bredgar for Thomas (3) and Susan and before. Unfortunately there does not appear to be an OPC for Bredgar.

I hope this makes sense, sadly this is a family of repeated naming patterns. Many thanks for your time.

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Baptism for Elizabeth JAMES Charlton Wilts
« on: Friday 07 September 12 20:53 BST (UK)  »
Please can anyone help find a baptism for Elizabeth James b 1826-1835 Charlton Wiltshire

On her 2 marriage certificates and death certificate, birth year would indicate a birth date of 1835.

However I have found her on the 1851 census as a 24 year old in service at Quennington Gloucs. As this is the birthplace of her husband I believe I have the correct person.

Her marriage certificates indicate that her father is Robert James, farmer.

Thank you

World War One / Royal Flying Corps
« on: Monday 04 April 11 20:23 BST (UK)  »
I was hoping that someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

My Granddad joined the Royal Flying Corps in WW1, I believe he was underage. I am lucky enough to have a photo of him in his uniform.  However I know that he did get a war pension, but I also know that he used several aliases during his life.

I have searched the ancestry records, but have not found anything. I know a lot of the records were lost in WW2 and I just cannot make head nor tail around the National Archive website. Is there any other avenue I can look at where I might find more information?

Thank you

Westmeath / Miltown: George Perry FRCSI any info please
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 15:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi

This is a last chance saloon. Is there anyone who can help me, please.

In both ancestry medical records and Irish Medical Records, there are entries for a George Perry. Miltown. Co. Westmeath c.1858/9.

I have followed all English/Welsh/Scots George Perry medics (or surname variation) but they do not tally with my ancestor, so this George really is my last hope.

Does anyone have any access to records for this area. I note from the website link that a lot of records are as yet unavailable. I have not come across any Irish roots before, so I have no idea where to start.

Thank you. Meggy

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / James Shaw: marriage please?
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 09:23 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help me please. I have found a christening for David Shaw on igi 25th Dec 1825... St Peter or Collegiate (?sp), Wloverhampton, but I cannot find a marriage for his parents, JAMES & ELIZABETH.

In the census, I cannot find James, but in 1841, Elizabeth is 45 and living with David 15(no other children identified), in Dudley Worcs, in 1851, David is alone in lodgings in Bow London. So unfortunately I have not been able to find birthplaces, for James and Elizabeth.

However at this time I have found numerous members of the family, christened/married in the above named church. So if anyone has access to these records I would be grateful for a look up.

Thank you.... meggy

Essex / ? News report re fire Fingringhoe c.1900
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 17:17 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I don't know whether anyone can help me.

I have recently obtained a copy of my granduncles journal. In it he reports that the house my g.granfathers house was destroyed by fire before they moved in.

The event was c.1900, the family were in the rebuilt address for the 1901 census.

I am wondering if anyone has access to local historical newspapers and whether there was any report of the fire.

The house was Laurel House, Fingringhoe. Any information gratefully received.

Thank you

Derbyshire / Mayor of Derby Completed thanks
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

This is a longshot, but is anyone able to lookup the mayor of Derby in the years 1913, 1921 and 1933.

It is a very strange request, but a journal of a great uncle has an entry alluding to a cousin being married to the Mayor of Derby who had dinner with King George V and Queen Mary. Having googled I can place the King and Queen in Derby in 1913/21/33. I am wondering if I can gain info re that cousin by finding the Mayor.

Having awaited eagerly for 1911 census in the hope it would shed any light on my G.Grandfather, however, as I should have guessed, there was nothing to help. So I have resorted to checking every bit of information I have for any scrap of evidence of possible relations to him other than his children.

Thank you if you can help... I checked wiki but no names for thoese years.

Durham / Bishop Auckland Perry 1870's
« on: Sunday 12 October 08 00:51 BST (UK)  »
This is a huge ask, but I am hoping someone out there may like a challenge. If you check  out my other threads you will get a broad history of my ongoing search for details re my Great grandfather. Previously I have not got further back than 1881 when he married ? 2nd wife in Newcastle. However I think I have found several newspaper articles placing him in the Bishops Auckland area in the 1870's

One article in the Northern Echo (Darlington) 25th Oct 1879 show Arthur Perry (accountant) in court for non payment of a loan. Sergeant Major Fox acted as surity. It states that a promisery note was in the name of Arthur Perry and his wife, it states he sold his furniture at Durham market and offered shares in  an insurance office.

However in the Northern Echo Darlington 17th oct 1877, Duff and Rowntree, undertakers sue Arthur Perry (accountant) for £20 for the funeral of his wife. I have found a death of an Elizabeth Perry in Auckland in 1877 on FreeBmd, but she is 42 and by my calculations Arthur would have been approx 25.

Obviously this Arthur Perry may not be my relative but its a lead. Is anyone able to access local records in order to help  me make sense of all this. I need to make you aware that my relatives actual name was George Arthur. I have got the marriage cert of an Arthur who married Hannah Hunter in Hull and this is not my relative..

Thank you for taking the time to read this
