Monmouthshire / Maximilian BALLARD 1700s - Cwmyoy
« on: Monday 18 December 23 05:41 GMT (UK)  »
I have already placed a thread on the Warwickshire board and I'm searching for a marrige betwwen Maximilian BALLARD and his wife Sophia.

This is the Warwickshire thread, and, as you can see, I already have a good deal of information re Maximillian, his children and the death of his wife.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=727620.new;topicseen#new

Maximillian BALLARD,  baptised Mancetter Warwickshire, on 10 November 1723 (parents Talbot Ballard & Mary)

His daughter, Margaret was baptised 1748 at Cwmyoy, as were subsequent children living in Cwmyoy, Monmouthshire from 1748, until his (probable) death in 1781. Before the baptism of his daughter in 1748 in Cwmyoy i can see no sign of him in Monmouthshire. Maximillian is a Ballard family name in Mancetter, Warwickshire in the 18th century.

The mother of his children is listed in Cwmyoy as "Sophia", and there is a burial for Sophia Ballard in Cwmyoy in 1783, with her will mentioning her son William Ballard so I'm happy that she is the mother of his children.

Thus, I'm looking for a marriage of Maximillian and Sophia around 1740-1747? I don't know where such a marriage might have taken place, nor a date although their daughter was baptised 1748.

I do have him on the Complete Book of Emigrants in bondage,  for stealing sheep at Cwmyoy- Sentenced Summer of 1761 and a pardon for this, 26 Jan 1762.  I don't know if he was actually transported and then returned, and I don't see him on any UK convict lists.  He was certainly back in Cwmyoy by 1772 when he was a witness at his daughter's marriage.

I'd love to find the marriage with Sophia.

London and Middlesex / Richard SEAGER 1700s
« on: Monday 18 January 21 23:56 GMT (UK)  »
I know that Richard S SEAGER of Greenwich Rd, tanner,  and his wife Elizabeth had children baptised at the Independent Chapel, High Street, Deptford, Formerly Butt Lane (Independent), between 1763 and 1776.

The only record I find of a marriage for Richard SEAGER and an Elizabeth is
29 December, 1760 at Sundridge, by Licence
Richard SEAGER, residence: Greenwich,    Elizabeth ALLEN of Sundridge (both sign)
One of the witnesses to this wedding is a David ASHDOWN.

Elizabeth SEAGER mother of the children baptised at Butt Lane, cites a David ASHDOWN of Brasted as an executor of her will dated 1788 so I’m assuming that this is probably her marriage.

There is a baptism on the Butt Lane registers for a child Richard SEAGER 10 October 1761, son of Richard S, (Greenwich Rd, Tanner) and of Mary, his wife.  Obviously this child’s dates fit well with his parents having married approx 9 months before – so is this a transcription error and is this the first child of Richard and Elizabeth?  (The images for the Chapel on Ancestry appear to be written in the same hand over many years so I’m assuming they are transcribed from other original material).

Richard and Elizabeth do have a child Richard baptised in 1769 at Butt Lane but, as we know, it’s not unusual to have a later child bearing the same name.

Richard SEAGER’s last child is baptised 1776 and Elizabeth, widow of Richard SEAGER dies in 1788, still living in Greenwich Rd, Greenwich,  and her age is given as 50, (thus an assumed birthdate of c1738).

I cannot find a death 1775-1788, or a will for Richard, nor can I narrow down a birth for him from the possibles.

Any help gratefully received.  Judith
(Originally posted on Kent board but I see that Greenwich is included in this London board)

London and Middlesex / A marriage for John SEAGER, 1780 - 1794
« on: Monday 18 January 21 23:49 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a marriage for John SEAGER, born Greenwich (occasionally listed as born Deptford) 1765, baptised at Butt Lane Independent Deptford 1765, parents Richard and Elizabeth SEAGER.
John was apprenticed, 26 Feb 1779 to George Atkins, taylor of Lewisham.
He was buried at Butt Lane Independent, 19 August 1794, residence Greenwich Rd.
His will was dated May 1794 and names his wife as "Sarah", so obviously he married before May 1794. No children are mentioned in the Will.

Thanks, Judith

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry DNA for non-members of Ancestry
« on: Thursday 03 December 20 07:11 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to figure out if there's any benefit in my son testing with Ancestry.   :-\ I'm a member of Ancestry and have a tree but my son is not a member of Ancestry, although obviously entered on my tree.

He is happy to do a DNA test which should give some matches/information re him and thus re my husband but is there some way I can load my son's DNA into my tree?

How would the information be relayed back to him as he's not a member?

(Sorry, not very well explained but hope you can work out what I mean!)  ::)

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Ralph Ballard 1598 Mancetter
« on: Friday 20 November 20 07:32 GMT (UK)  »
I have a marriage for Ralph BALLARD, Mancetter, August 1598.  I cannot decipher the name of the bride.

Perhaps Susan????
Surname: R.........  ??

This has been transcribed by Ancestry from England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973 as Susan Rowditch which looks distinct possibilty to me but would appreciate other opinions.

The date has been transcribed as 2 August - any agreement?

Thanks, Judith

Australia / Fitzgerald, Turramurra
« on: Tuesday 03 November 20 03:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can access these death notices - and any other info on this couple, as I can't see a marriage or a birth for Horace- Muriel's maiden name is Gillott but I think she may have been married to a Donald SCOTT before her marriage to Horace.  I do have them on electoral rolls and I know they had a daughter, probably still living.

According to Ryerson, Horace died  in 1969
FITZGERALD   Horace,  Died 27 SEP 1969, late of Turramurra.
Notice: Sydney Morning Herald   30 SEP 1969

And Muriel in 1979
FITZGERALD   Muriel Alma May, died 09 JUN 1979, 77   formerly of Turramurra
Notice: Sydney Morning Herald   11 JUN 1979

Thanks, Judith

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Wedding witness
« on: Friday 05 June 20 07:54 BST (UK)  »
I have the following marriage:
London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932
Samuel DYER/ Maria TARN
6 Mar 1827, at  St Mary, Islington

Two of the witnesses (not shown) are TARN family members, one of the witnesses, which I can read is Mary Evans DYER, half sister of the groom but I cannot read the surname of the fourth witness, which is Joseph Kitley/Ketly J........

Any thoughts?  (I don't need any other information about the couple, but I would be interested to know the name and any details of this witness.)

Thanks,  Judith
