Census and Resource Discussion / 1911 census on genes
« on: Sunday 22 August 10 19:16 BST (UK)  »
I used to subscribe to Genes Reunited but my membership lapsed ages ago because I found ancestry.com much easier to use. As it doesn't look like ancestry will have access to the 1911 census, and I find the 1911online site a bit hit and miss can anyone tell me whether it would be worth re-subscribing to genes so that I can get unlimited access to the 1911 census? Many thanks, Kate.

Essex Lookup Requests / George Street, Chelmsford
« on: Monday 08 March 10 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
I noticed on Barbara Windsor's 'Who do you think you are' that the expert was able to look up an address and find out what kind of people lived in the area. Does anyone know whether those records are kept for all areas or just London. My grandfather lived in George Street, Chelmsford at the beginning of the 20th century. His father was a labourer possibly on the railways and I am wondering what kind of house that was (it's no longer there) and what the living conditions were. Many thanks. Kate

The Common Room / Glasgow
« on: Thursday 19 November 09 12:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have searched on freebmd for the death of my great uncle who died in Glasgow. The search asks for a county or area name. Glasgow isn't listed as a place in it's own right and I can't find out which county it comes under. Can anyone enlighten me?
Many thanks, Kate

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / still looking for Ada!!
« on: Friday 24 July 09 08:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone tell me what may have happened to the illegitimate daughter of a young blind woman in the early 20th century? Her mother married in 1912 but no one seems to know much about the baby she'd had previously. Would she have been placed in an orphanage or sent to the colonies? If so would there be any record of it? The child was called Ada Adelaide James. Her mother was Ada Gooding or Goodwin Smith and her birth certificate states her father was Edward James. Ada was born in East Ham in 1906. I have her birth certificate but can't find any other records for her. ANYTHING would be very gratefully received. Many thanks.

Hi, can anyone help me please? I am looking for any information regarding Ada Adelaide James. Her mother was Ada Goodwin/Gooding Smith and she may have had a sister called Winnie but I have no details at all about her father other than he must have died before 1912 when Ada married James Waters. Any information would be greatly appreciated.   :)

Suffolk / Suicide of Eliza WHAYMAN (nee HAWES)
« on: Saturday 18 April 09 18:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi, can anyone tell me if there would be a death certificate for my great great grandmother who I believe committed suicide by drowning at sea? Her son who was called John Whayman committed suicide and the report into his death mentioned the fact that both of his parents also killed themselves. I have found the report into his father's death but not his mother's. As the report mentions that John was quite a child at the time of his mother's death I estimate that this was probably about 1870 give or take a bit. They lived in the Plomesgate area of Suffolk. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
