World War Two / 5th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment - Pte Harry Peterson
« on: Thursday 18 January 24 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am struggling to find additional information regarding my great uncle. I know he served with the 5th Bn The East Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of York’s Own) during WW2.  I have obtained some data from the CWGC site.
4348060 Pte Harry Peterson DOB: 13 May 1913, Liverpool. Died: 17 Aug 1942, Mediterranean Sea. I believe he was a POW captured in North Africa, he along with hundreds of other POW’s the ship was I believe sunk by a British submarine? On its way to Italy.  Have tried to find out what medals he was awarded and other military details without any luck. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks in Advance

Dublin / James Madden - Dublin 1754
« on: Wednesday 12 July 23 14:41 BST (UK)  »
I am carrying out some research on behalf of my cousin.
I have traced her maternal side to Ireland.

James Madden DOB 9 Feb 1754 Dublin. No date of death. 1820 Resident 11 Aston’s Quay Dublin.  Married to Elisabeth Moore. No further details.

I would like to try and go further back in the Madden family tree.  Also James Madden’s date of death and where he died.

I have his sons basic details John Madden DOB 1775 Ireland and nothing else?
I hope I have not replicated my work.

World War One / WW1 David Drummond Oliver
« on: Tuesday 04 July 23 16:13 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to help someone to research their great grandfathers military service during the Great War.

I have tried to find any reference to him as having served during the Great War. His details are:

David Drummond Oliver DOB: 1872 Liverpool. He is listed in the 1911 census. I have found a death recorded 1951 Liverpool North.  What is interesting if he did serve in 1914 he would have been aged @42? Of course He could have lied about his age.

David’s father was Thomas Henry Oliver.

I appologise for not having much detail and any help will be appreciated

Armed Forces / WW1 - Thomas Bent
« on: Saturday 06 May 23 18:40 BST (UK)  »
In need of some help,

I do not have much detail.  I have searched various databases.

I trying to search for ANY info on:

157996 Sapper Thomas Best Royal Engineers.  I have recently purchased his WW1 medals, War medal and Victory medal.

I have found his medal cards, but nothing else.

I believe  Thomas may have served with one of the many tunnelling companies.

I believe he may have been born @1890 only a guess. I am sorry but that is all I have.

I would like to put some meat on the bones, ie DOB place of birth etc.

Regards
Keith
