I am interested in a will listed in the York Registry for Thomas_____ (Presumably  OADE or variant) of Conisbrough 1624/5  vol 38 fol 521

How can I get a copy of this will? Are they online anywhere?

The Common Room / MyHeritage

MyHeritage have a tempting subscription offer at the moment.

I have uploaded DNA onto MyHeritage and I like the way that works.

Does MyHeritage have any records that are not available on Ancestry or FindMyPast?

My closest DNA matches are my second cousins on my mother's side.

Could someone explain why they do not appear in the same cluster?

Ireland / John Martin born somewhere in Ireland circa 1790
« on: Wednesday 23 December 20 12:32 GMT (UK)  »
In 1841  John MARTIN & his wife Sarah are living in Colchester, Essex.  They were both born in Ireland. John's year of birth is circa 1782 and Sarah's 1796.

Their children were baptised at C of E and Methodist churches in the town between 1820 and 1832.  The first Catholic Church in Colchester wasn't built until 1837. So, I'm not sure if they were Protestants originally or used those churches because there wasn't a Catholic Church nearby.

The only other clue I have for him is that he his middle name was Alban on his daughter's marriage certificate.

With such common names and such little information do I have any chance of finding their Irish origins?

DNA is showing some interesting matches in what is now Northern Ireland but I can't see any connections.

Armed Forces / Army Service East Indies 1820s
« on: Tuesday 22 December 20 10:02 GMT (UK)  »
I'm clutching at straws looking for an Irish ancestor.

He had a fairly common name but settled in Colchester which is an army town.  The census just gives Ireland for the place of birth for him and his wife.  They were not Catholics.

I have found a possibility among the army service records which says he was serving in the East Indies.  Would he had been there the entire time or would he have come home on leave?

If he's the chap I'm looking for he would have needed to come home to have fathered children.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Where would my ancestors have worked
« on: Tuesday 15 December 20 14:19 GMT (UK)  »
On the 1861 census my family are living near Chapel Fold, Northowram, Halifax.

Their occupations were given as worst spinner, colour filler carpet painter and worsted printer.

Can anyone tell where they might have worked? Would it have been a mill or from home?

I have just come across this cause of death in a burial record transcription:

   Extreme Castireness

Does anyone know what this was?
