Armed Forces / Royal Marines. What is his rank please?
« on: Tuesday 15 September 20 19:29 BST (UK)  »
I have inherited this picture of my grandfather.  It is not valuable, except to me.  I would like to know what rank he held at the time it was painted please.

I have downloaded his file from the N/A wondered if anyone could shed some light on them and, maybe, explain them to me a little, I would be grateful as I am literally 'all at sea'.   :)   I understand that he was in Hong Kong in 1899 and the ships he served on :

Immortalite 1895-98. Wildfire 1899-1900. Pembroke 1900-02.  Wildfire 1903-04.  Resolution 1905 (3 months).  Bedford 1906 (1 month). Charybdis 1906-07.  Cressy 1907-1909.  Victory RM Brigade(?) 1914-15.  Marshal Sault 1915-16.

Many thanks.  Royd.

Glamorganshire / Pontypridd records
« on: Friday 11 September 20 21:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am researching a family who lived in Pontypridd from about 1896 - I can find the civil marriages, births, deaths etc but am unable to find many parish records for them.  I know that this may mean that they were Roman Catholic etc., but just wondered if I was missing something in my search.

George Mills Carver was born in Newport in 1871 and was married in 1895 to Catherine Kane in Pontypridd.  They continued to live there and had several children - George was a hairdresser.  He died in Pontypridd in 1925.  I have scoured FindMyPast and Ancestry and have the census etc., but would love to be able to find parish records as in where they are buried for example.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.  Thank you.   Royd.

Other Countries / Weiner/Frydman - Wloclawek, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland
« on: Sunday 28 June 20 22:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to find the birth of Gustawa Weiner born 1904 in Wloclawek, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Poland.  Her father's name was Salomon Weiner.

Gustawa perished in a concentration camp during WW2 under her married name of Frydman.  It is known that she lived in Liverpool prior to the war and I have those details.   Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

« on: Friday 16 August 19 15:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi.

I have John Brigham Anfield (1839) marrying Sarah Ann Bullock in 1859 at the parish church Sculcoates.  In 1882 at St. James' church Hull, he marries Isabella Rochford (nee Gray) by whom he has had a shedful of children!!  He states he is a widower but I simply cannot find Sarah Ann's death.  Am I barking up the wrong tree somewhere?  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

« on: Thursday 28 September 17 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please restore the very crumpled picture of this poor young boy.  He is one of a pair of brothers killed in WW1 - if the badge could be better seen, I may have an idea.  Many thanks.

I would be really grateful if someone could sort out this clergyman's complexion - he is rather blotchy.  Many thanks and apologies for previous attempts at postings - am out of the habit.

Lancashire / Wigan marriage - clarification needed please.
« on: Monday 04 April 16 08:13 BST (UK)  »
I have found a marriage on lancs opc as follows:

Marriage: 12 May 1913 St Mary, Ince, Lancashire, England Richard Bushell - 23, Collier, Bachelor, 23 Cross Street Jane Ashcroft - 19, Spinster, 7 Margaret Street Groom's Father: Henry Bushell, deceased, Labourer Bride's Father: William Henry Ashcroft

I am now trying to clarify the bride's parents.  Looking at the 1911 census I suspect the family may be living in Platt Bridge where Jane is one of 12 children - 4 living 8 deceased.  Parents William Hy (born Orrell) and Alice.  There is a connection with Orrell apparently.

If my suspicions are correct, then I would dearly love to know Alice's maiden name but William and Alice are not uncommon names unfortunately.  I have a feeling it may be Eaude/Eude/Youde but am going round in ever decreasing circles.   It would be so helpful if I could find Jane's correct parents.

Thank you for any help received.  R.
