Canada / Where to look next?
« on: Friday 08 August 08 14:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for any information of George Quirot, or any ideas of where i could look next.
I have checked lots of the links that have been posted on here, but not been able to find anything.

Timeline of George Quirot

Born - 31 Dec 1885 St Helier Jersey, Channel Islands

Parents - Phillip Quirot and Mary Ann Verront both born Jersey

1887 - George's father died

1887 - 1891 George and his siblings put into the Jersey Orphans Home

1891 census RG12/4698 f30 p24 - George is age 5 and living in the Jersey Orphans Home

Feb 1893 - George is moved to the Jersey Boys Industrial School he was aged 8 at this time

1901 census RG13/5315 f78 p1 - George is age 15 and still in the Industrial School

18 July 1901 - George left the Industrial school and was bonded to a Miss Bridges as a House Boy.

18 March 1909 - I have found George on a passenger list on board the ship Canada bound for Halifax Canada. (info Find My Past)
Also found the instructions to purser list that his destination was Toronto ( info Collections Canada website)

I have no other info of George and have no idea what may of happened to him other than three photographs of him, two of which he is in uniform (Army?).

I have assumed (i know i shouldn't) that he must have joined the army? at the time of the first world war, but can't find any records of this in either the British or Canadian records. I have also searched the Canadian census but not been able to find him.

Would there be any Canadian marriage or death records on line that i could search. I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas of what may have happened to him and where i could possibly look next.

Thanking you in advance
Sal

Lancashire Lookup Requests / County Asylum Prestwich (Updated)
« on: Tuesday 25 September 07 20:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Has anyone got a copy of the County Asylum Prestwich Cd  who could do a lookup for me please, i would be most grateful.
I am looking for Edwin Mayall  born 1844 Oldham, who i believe was admitted into the asylum some time between 1891 and 1901.

I have Edwin on the 1891 census RG12/3322 f 26 p 48 with his wife and children in Royton he is noted as being a lunatic.
On the 1901 census i think i have found him in Prestwich Asylum, Rg13/3779 f 84 p 25 as E Mayall, married, 51, ?? in Cotton Mill, Oldham again noted as a lunatic.
His age is a few years out but i still believe it could be him.

Thanking you in advance

Lancashire / A bit of a problem (Updated)
« on: Friday 26 January 07 18:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I have had a problem finding my gg grandfather Edwin Mayall birth cert. He was born c1844 in Oldham, his parents were James Mayall and Susannah Armstrong nee Bardsley.

I have found the family on all census 1851-1901. The 1851 census HO107/2241 folio 195 page 15 is the first census Edwin appears on with his parents and younger brother Robert, on the 1861 census RG9/3017 folio 92 page 21 Edwin has another brother James.

I have found the birth references on the Lancashire bmd site for Robert 1846 and James 1852 Mayall, mothers maiden name Bardsley. (I haven't bought these certs)

I have found the Marriage for James and Susannah, they were married in 1859 at St Mary Prestwich. (I have this cert) It looks like they lived together from at least 1846 when 2nd son Robert was born.

I also found Susannah's first marriage to Joseph Armstrong in 1837 at St Leonard, Middleton. (i have transcribed this from the Parish Register). They had 1 daughter Ellen born 1839 Oldham.

I have found Susannah and Ellen on the 1841 census HO107/546/2 folio33 page 27 living with her parents Edmund and Sarah Bardsley at Pleasant St, Oldham there is no sign of her husband Joseph.

I have now found a birth cert for Edwin Armstrong born 1844 Oldham, so i bought it today. On the cert  -  4 oct 1844 at 40 Pleasant St, Edwin, no father listed, mother Susannah Armstrong, no maiden name, Susannah registered the birth herself.

Now could this be my Edwin born to Susannah and possibly her first husband Joseph Armstrong?
Or could she have had a bit of a fling and ended up with Edwin on her own, then met up with James Mayall and settled down with him and married at a later date (1859) and James took Edwin on as his own son?

Hope all this makes sense - any help to solve this will be appreciated.

Northamptonshire / Northampton Christenings
« on: Saturday 06 January 07 09:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Would anyone know which churches the following christenings would have been held at.

Eliza Hall and David Hall christened on the 30 June 1837 at Northampton, parents David Hall and Elizabeth.

Joseph Leeson christened on the 6 Sept 1840 and John Leeson christened on the 21 Dec 1845 both at Northampton, parents Thomas Leeson and Elizabeth.

The only info of where these families lived around these dates is off the census. The Hall family lived at Mount Gardens when the 1841 census was taken. The Leeson family lived at Barretts Farm at the time of the 1841 and 1851 census.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanking you in advance.
