Trying to confirm that John Irving who died at 87 years in 1858 at Caulside was the same who married  Margaret Armstrong and lived and farmed at Hawkshall during his earlier days. My wife descends from this couple and I am trying to learn more about them and their families. :)

My wife's direct ancestor, Nathaniel Grant was born c1753 and died 29 Aug 1820, interred in Elgin Cathedral.  I have been researching my wife's family tree for many years.  We have visited Scotland from Canada several times...including Elgin.  But recently I was very happy to find online records for the Moray/Heritage records.  Nathaniel does show up in these records and his occupation is listed as a soldier. My question is what service/regiment he might have been part of..so I can start looking for his records there?

thanks

I should add that he (and his son William) were with the Gordon Highlanders in WWI and survived although taken POW at some point?  Wife was Jessie Gerrie. With thanks from Canada

« on: Tuesday 08 July 14 15:54 BST (UK)  »
This relative died at York in 2003 but i'm not sure which board to post this question on.  i hope this one is okay.

He was born in Hawick, Sco, in 1929. was an electrical engineer in York. I haven't been able to find an obituary for him or a cemetery. all help appreciated. I'm trying to determine if he was married and had family that could shed some light on my Scotts.

Fermanagh / has anyone heard of the Stutt's shop at Ballagh?
« on: Tuesday 08 July 14 03:03 BST (UK)  »
i have been researching me Stutt family in Fermanagh and after ordering my gr x3 grandmother Elizabeth's death registration (she died at Ballagh in 1867) i've learned that Stutts lived on at Ballagh right up to WWII when a Matilda Stutt and her sister were operating a shop there.  Ballagh is on the road to Roslea from Lisnaskea. I would be thrilled to recieve any information helpers may have about the shop or Stutts in general.  i don't even know what they were selling in the shop although earlier census returns said they made lace products. all info appreciated.
