Hi, I found loose in a book a small certificate received by the above, awarded by Stourbridge Higher Education Committee in 1929 for his work in Pottery & Glass.

If he is of interest to you, please reply, I will give you my address  and I am happy to send it to you on receipt of an SAE.

Otherwise I could attach an image to a second message, but pity not to have the certificate.

Happy researching!

Family History Beginners Board / Asylum coding by names
« on: Monday 09 September 19 10:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking at the 1939 Registration schedule for Cane Hill Asylum in Coulsdon, Surrey, for a family member and see at the top of one column the letters O, V, S, P, I - patients are  given one of these letters by their names.

Can anyone tell me what the letters stand for, please?

Many thanks.

Dublin / Lavinia Tabb c1838 -?
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 21:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am looking for any information about the above, daughter of Robert Tabb.  She married Joseph Ridley in St Mary's, Dublin in 1859.  Joseph was a gymnast/clown, born 1835/6, one of the "Brothers Ridley". He died in Edinburgh in February 1868 of meningitis while on tour.  Lavinia was the informant, present at the death.   Newspaper reports say that Joseph left a wife and daughter.   I cannot find Lavinia after 1868.

Grateful for any help with Lavinia.

Thanks for reading this!

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / James Wilkins - married Stapleton 1820
« on: Friday 19 May 17 09:03 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a James Wilkins who married Mary Ann Brodribb on 14 February 1820 at Holy Trinity Church, Stapleton, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.  I have all the information on the Brodribb family till that date, but nothing on James, and nothing certain on them and their family after 1820.  There are letters to Mrs Wilkins nee Brodribb in Warminster, Wiltshire in the 1850s, so the family may have moved there.

I have found several possible children for them on LDS, born in Bristol 1820-1835, to James Wilkins, glazier & Mary Ann.  All speculation, of course.....

William Hazell Wilkins baptised 1 January 1821- St Philip & St Jacob, Bristol
Sarah Harris Wilkins baptised 24 October 1824 - ditto
*Elizabeth Brodribb Wilkins also baptised 24 October 1824 - ditto
James Harris Wilkins baptised 8 October 1826 - ditto
Louisa Mary Wilkins baptised 18 May 1828 - ditto
Mary Ann Wilkins baptised at Chapel 22 February 1835

*I found a possible marriage for her on 8 September 1852 at St Philip & St Jacob to William Cavell.  She was daughter of a James Wilkins and he was son of William Cavell, but since only a transcription, no further details.   She may then have married again, as Cavell, to either James Benjamin Johnson or William Lovatt in 1879 in Bristol. Unfortunately I have found no more for certain about her - there must be records…….

It seems strange that James does not appear on records - he may have died early, of course - but Mary Ann must be somewhere, and their children.  Who were his parents and where was he born? There is a Joseph Wilkins of 92 Hotwell Rd, Bristol, glazier, on the trade records of 1775 - was he related?

I have had great help from Roots chatters in the past - so look forward to aid this time!  Many thanks.

London and Middlesex / Richard Noble baptised Bermondsey 1803 - need information
« on: Monday 20 February 17 18:02 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for the life story of the above, baptised on 3 April 1803, Bermondsey, parents Richard & Mary Noble.  He is not the artist Richard Noble (1805-1882) born in Old Charlton, Kent (parents Mark & Susannah) or the artist Richard Pratchett Noble (1814-1892). He is also not the Richard Noble who died in 1837, married to Charlotte, who helpfully left a will.
His father Richard was a cordwainer in 1803, and died on 1 July 1838  when he was running the George IV pub in Pimlico.  Father Richard was assignee for young Richard's bankruptcy in 1835,  and mentions his name in the margin of his will written in 1837, so young Richard was still around in 1837.
The bankruptcy information says he was a corn chandler.  Otherwise I can find nothing about him - help please if the name rings a bell.  Thank you.

Durham Lookup Requests / Lucy Margaret Power (1814-
« on: Friday 17 July 15 17:30 BST (UK)  »
I have the basic information I need for the baptism of the above, 23 December 1814, South Shields St Hilda, father Robert, mother Ann (via Ancestry/IGI) but need to know the maiden name of her mother and her father's profession if possible, to ensure I have the right link.
I have tried the Durham County Record Office but get no result with her name, although there must be an original document.  Also tried FreeReg without success.
Can anyone help, please?
