Devon / WARREN family of Ashburton
« on: Tuesday 27 March 12 11:48 BST (UK)  »
To anyone who might be able to assist, My family Warren came from Ashburton, Devon at sometime just after the religious turmoil of the 1640's. According to the Reverend Thomas Warren [History of the Warren Family] John Warren [a Parish Clerk at Marnhull, Dorset] came to Dorset about 1680 with his son John [Born 1658] and held the post of Parish Clerk at Marnhull until his death in January 1698/99?

The Dorset records office confirmed his death and burial at that time but could not confirm his work. I do know that his son John [b1658] became Parsi Clerk after him and he was followed by his son Christopher about 1750 or perhaps a little earlier, [John the younger died 1752]. Christopher married and had a son Martin [b1733] who died about 1780 of smallpox. He had a son also named Christopher who migrated to Southampton about 1780-89 and his first son Uriah was born there in 1790. The family were also Stone Masons from about 1680 and continued in that trade right up until Christopher [b 1768] died in Southampton about 1830.

My look up request may be too difficult but here goes; I need to know if John Warren b 1617 at Ashburton was the Parish clerk who came to Marnhull. If he is the one, his father would be Christopher Warren [b1585] and mother would be Alice Webb [married 1613]. His older brother would have been Robert Warren [Clerk and Rector of Maker and Rame in Cornwall] who was born in 1615 and who died in 1668 at Rame and who is buried in the church at that village. The Reverend Thomas Warren got his information on my family from the Reverend John Hutchins who also wrote his own history of Devon and Dorset. Hutchins gleaned his information on the Ashburton Warren family from the Reverends Harry and Conyers Place who were resident in Marnhull at that time and they probably were able to pass the information on direct from Christopher Warren [son of John the younger married Ruth] who was Parish Clerk at the time of Hutchins visit.

The only way I can see that proof could be forthcoming, is by finding out where the 81 year-old John Warren [b1617] came from and when he arrived in Marnhull. I have exhausted Marnhull completely and well know every Warren family [and their dogs] from 1561 to 1780. The proof I need is that John born of Christopher and Alice in 1617 is the correct trail.

Dorset Lookup Requests / John Warren 0f Marnhull
« on: Tuesday 02 August 11 08:58 BST (UK)  »
John Warren [B 1617 d 1698] was the Parish Clerk of that village and he passed that work on to his son John Warren [b1658 d 1752] married Ruth. I am still trying to find John's [b 1617] birthplace. The Reverend Thomas Warren gives his birth as probably being in Ashburton, Devon. I have records of proof of his burial in Marnhull on January 29th 1698 from the Dorset records office.

This John is not related to the Sydling branch that were already incumbent in that village and I am hoping that someone can assist me in proving that John [b 1617] was or was not the son of Christopher Warren Rector of Ilsington, Devon and brother of Robert Warren, Rector of Maker and Rame in Cornwall c1668.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Robert WARREN Rector of Rame, Cornnwall
« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 19:04 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the remnants of the Warren Family of Maker and Rame. They were  brought to that area by the Reverend Robert Warren [Maker] in 1663. In 1668 he was made Rector of Rame but died the day after taking up his post. He married Margaret Burgess of Peter Tavy and had children Christopher, Robert, Thomas, Peter, Nathaniel, Margaret and Ann. These children were all born before 1660. The heir [Robert] became Rector of Rame after his father and married Priscilla Granger and they had children Margaret, William, Mary, Grace,John, Robert, Sarah, Thomas and Thomas b July 1689. I do not wish to go backwards from here, I would like to come as far forward as possible. Rector Robert Warren Jr [m Priscilla] and his wife both died about 1690 and I believe that they may have moved to Plymouth [relatives] or Hampshire. Can anyone let me know if there are family still existent who are of that direct line. I believe that they are definitely related. Rayw1

Dorset / Martin Warren of Marnhull, Dorset.
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 10:24 BST (UK)  »
Help needed please, I am looking for the Parents and Grandparents of Martin Warren who was born c1770. He married about 1798, to Elizabeth?? possibly FOYLE of Wiltshire and had a first son John who was born in 1801. I believe that he may be the progeny of George Warren Married Marjory Nowell because of the George and Joseph name usage in that family line.

He should not be confused with Martin born 1733 to Christopher Warren at Marnhull and not with that Martin's son Martin who was born about 1767 and who married Mary Burge.

Martin m Elizabeth had at least four children, John 1801, Sarah 1806, Joseph b 1811 and William b1817
Thank you in advance

Dorset / John Warren/Warne of Marnhull Dorset
« on: Friday 17 October 08 09:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi can anyone help me.
Look up please, John Warren b 1617 at Ashburton Devon, I need his marriage date to Elizabeth?? His son was also John Warren born 1658/9 either in Devon or at Marnhull Dorset. It is possible that this son John was baptised in St Martin, Exeter c1658. John [1658/9] was married to Ruth?? They had all their children in Marnhull including Christopher b1698 [my GGG]. I have tried many ways to prove them including the Parish register [nothing before 1699 can I find] Both Johns were Parish Clerks at Marnhull and both lived to ripe old ages. John [1617] 81 years and John [1658] 94 years [died 1752 as John Warne]. There are several John Warrens around this period but both the Reverend Thomas Warren [History of Dorset] and John Hutchins [ History and antiquaries of Dorset] state that the two John Warrens were father and son. Can anyone assist me to prove this point.

Dorset Lookup Requests / John Warren of Marnhull Dorset
« on: Monday 29 September 08 08:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Can anyone assist with finding the origins of John Warren [b1617] who died in Marnhull aged 81 in 1698. He was rewarded for being loyal to both King Charles the first and Charles the second with a 20 shilling award and a pension that he [along with three other men] received after 1660. The Reverend Thomas Warren in his book The History of the Warren Family, states that John came from Ashburton in Devon and settled ijn Marnhull as parish Clerk. His older brother Robert was heir to his father Christopher Warren who married Alice Webb in 1613. Christopher was rector of Ilsington and his son Robert went on to be rector of Maker and then Rame in Cornwall about 1668. John was born two years after his brother Robert [b1615] and it is believed that he was the one that brought our family to Marnhull. How can one find proof of this move from Ashburton to Marnhull?
