The Common Room / 200 Faubourg St. Denis, Paris
« on: Tuesday 15 February 22 17:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,,
I have an ancester who was born in 1878 in Southsea, Hampshire. However, she died on
2 March 1908 at 200 Faubourg St. Denis, Paris, France and she was a spinster.
Does anyone know what this place might have been then please, was it a hospital perhaps?
Any info would be most welcome.

London and Middlesex / Lady Elizabeth Warren
« on: Monday 07 June 21 12:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Under the Holborn, British Lying-In Hospital births for one of my ancestors in 1761 Elizabeth Mackavoy, it states that she was a gentleman's servant. It says that the recommendors name  was  Lady Elizabeth Warren so presumably this is who she worked for. I can find nothing at all about Lady Elizabeth Warren. Would anyone know who she was or where she lived?  Elizabeth & her husband James lived in Ratcliffe, London.
Many thanks from Quester

London and Middlesex / St John´s Road Workhouse Register, 1910
« on: Monday 08 March 21 16:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, In the St John´s Road Workhouse Register, 1910 is my husbands grandmother (Eliza)and her new born baby. (My husbands father) The baby was born the day before his entry into the workhouse. What puzzles me is that Eliza lived at 100 Bride Street, Islington for many years and it is mentioned on the Workhouse Register as her address, but also there are two other addresses 55 Colebrook Row Islington for her and 33 Rupert Road, London for her baby. How can I find out who lived there in 1910 and why the two extra addresses? The family were very poor and did not own any property.

Hi
I have been puzzling over these two ancestors of mine for years. I am not sure who they are, but could they be the same couple in both photographs? The clues seem to be = 1. They are both taken in the garden. 2. They are in a similar pose. 3 She is wearing a velvet dress - could it be the same one, but altered? 4. He has a three piece suit. 5. They are from the same photographer = no name, but a green edge to the pics.
I would very much appreciate other peoples views. Thank you from Quester

Norfolk / William Hillen or Hilling
« on: Sunday 10 May 20 11:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi  :)
My ancestor William Hillen (sometimes spelt Hilling) was in the East Norfolk Militia from 1792 as a Private until 1802 when he deserted. They were stationed in Pontefract, Rochdale, Nottingham, Colchester and Lichfield staffs, where his daughter Maria was baptised 30 Nov 1800 at St. Mary's, Lichfield. William's wife was called Betty, she was born c 1776 in Norwich, but I have not found a marriage for them yet. Are there any records that would maybe lead me to his marriage and a maiden name for Betty? William was born in Norwich c 1773. On 29 Feb 1832 William was sentenced to transportation in Australia for stealing three donkey's and I have found out many things concerning his time there, but not his marriage. On Ancestry's website several people have put Betty's maiden name as Chittock, but Elizabeth Chittock's family were Bakers's and William Hillen & Betty were very poor - a removal order was taken out for Maria & Betty on 25 June 1805 to Carlton Rode from St. Martin at Oak, Norwich, so I am not convinced Chittock is the correct one, especial as the Chittock Hilling marriage was in 1809 and Maria was born in 1800.
Any help would be great.

Kent / Who is Stanley?
« on: Tuesday 14 May 19 12:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi, This is a real long shot.  :) I have a photo in my late mother's photo album of a baby. There is a name in ink on the photo - Stanley, but no surname. There are also two dates, presumably birth and death dates, 31 October 1921 and 31 August 1922. The photograph was taken by a photographer's in Plumstead, Kent. Plumstead is where the family lived, so I am sure this is where Stanley was born. With these two dates, plus place, is there any way of finding out the parents or surname of Stanley?
Thanks in anticipation from Quester

Hi,
This is a photo of my great grandmother Mary Knight. I would love it if someone could colour it in for me. I realise it is not in good condition though, so any enhancement would be most gratefully received. Best wishes from Quester

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Decipher a signature please
« on: Tuesday 03 July 18 15:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder whether someone could decipher the three letters from this signature please? I wondered whether they read W A S or could it be N A S or something else entirely?
All thoughts greatly appreciated. Regards Quester
