Ayrshire / Chief Constable of Ayr - Help needed!
« on: Friday 11 March 22 17:35 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me at all. I am looking for information on Angus Gunn the Head/Chief Constable of Ayr from 1814-1827. I think he married Janet Kerr in 1815 and had 4 children. I have got some information about his work life including information about the hanging at Symington Toll, but I am struggling to find anything about when and where he was born and what happened to him after he retired (due to injury at an incident in Mauchline). Can anyone help? I have seen some unconfirmed information on Ancestry (about both Angus and Janet) but am not convinced it's right.

Does anyone have access to parish records for this area?

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / 1891 Census HESTER
« on: Sunday 07 September 08 20:53 BST (UK)  »
I don't know whether I've missed something obvious, but I am trying to find the following person in 1891 Census and cannot find her anywhere!

Emily Hester born 1886 (+/-1) Wycombe

I have her in 1901, but she is not with her family  :'(
I may well have to order a birth certificate to find out her parents, but was trying to avoid it if possible  :-\

« on: Saturday 05 April 08 17:48 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone live near Willesden Jewish Cemetery, Beaconsfield Road?
If so, I was wondering if you'd be able to have a look for a grave and take a photo or find out what is written on it.
Just in case the details are:

Esther Lyons
Date of burial 16/11/1897
Section K
Row C
Plot 17

Here's hoping ...... ;)

Obviously this is applicable to non-immigrants too, but couldn't think where else to post it!

Fantastic online resource - free to use.

I have posted this once before, but I thought I'd try again as I'm still stuck, although I have few bits of extra info:
Looking for any information on:
James Oakley White born High Wycombe, Bucks
Father: Frederick Oakley White
Emigrated with his mother Eileen Mary White ) in Nov 1948 on SS Washington.
Arrived in New York 22 Nov 1948
Destination recorded on Passenger list: 1028 W Hollins St. Baltimore

I believe he was in the US Navy.

Any ideas of how I can find out more e.g. where he went, who he married, if he had children etc???

Dates have been removed to protect the privacy of possible living persons.
Please use the PM if more information is needed.

Europe / German Look up needed - not really an immigrant!
« on: Tuesday 14 August 07 22:33 BST (UK)  »
I wasn't sure if this was the right place to put this request, but it seemed the 'best fit'.

I've just spotted on the 1881 Census a Gustaf Lowenthal b1836 Oelft, Germany.  He is on board a ship called GF Muntz in Lundy Island, Devon.   ???
He also seems to be listed on a German Ships Crew List in Bremen, but I can't access the details.  :'(

Can some kind soul see if they can find anything about him or the ship he was on?
